“Well appointed, central, comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

We booked a twin room with ensuite and found the room well appointed, tastefully decorated and the ensuite good quality fittings. All in all a comfortable stay that was close to everything. The staff were very helpful and even carried my bag a further two flights of stairs (we were on the third floor). The only slight difficulty were the stairs which were very narrow, so difficult to negotiate with a suitcase. We also had difficulty finding the doorway in which is tiny. Perhaps they could paint it a bright colour? Would thoroughly recommend it as value for money.

Dear Irene,

Thank you for your review.

I am very pleased to hear that the twin ensuite room your stayed in met all your expectations, it is always good to hear positive feedback so that we know we are still getting it right.

As you mention in your review the stairs are narrow and we don't have a lift. Our staff do offer to help with bags as we want everything to be as easy as possible for our guests.

Although we can't change the stairs we do have ground floor rooms on request and we are continuously making improvements to the rooms. All our twin en-suites are having new shower rooms fitted as I write.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Kind regards,
Claudia

A fabulously comfortable hotel - just rather strange to visit at first - with a tiny door leading off of the main street and a set of stairs up to reception. but what the hotel lacks in first impressions is very much made up for by the customer care on offer from the staff, the well appointed rooms with exceptional showers! Needs a few mirrors - but otherwise a really comfortable stay. And breakfast? This is taken in the café next door, and the staff and food there are as great as the hotel. Many thanks to Claudia and staff.

Room Tip: Ask for the type of room you prefer - and leave it to the staff to advise you - they do their best t...

Dear Franc,

Thank you very much for your review of our family run hotel. I am really pleased to hear that our staff made you feel welcome.

You are right to say that our entrance is very narrow, and I will be looking into ways to make it stand out more, however once inside we have a wide range of rooms to meet all the different needs of our guests.

I will definitely take on your feedback regarding the mirrors in the rooms. This can easily be added to our ongoing refurbishment of the hotel. Always great to have feedback.

Good to know that our cafe under the same ownership, Cafe Riva was just as much a success.

Hope to meet you again.

Kind regards,
Claudia

My friend and I booked a twin room with shared bathroom at London City Hotel for our first 4 nights in London. I landed that day and found the hotel easily - it's right next door to Borough tube station which was really helpful.

Our room was small, but for London it was expected. We had a sink, tv and wardrobe in the room but still enough space to manoeuvre around. The shared bathroom wasn't a problem and was located just across the hallway. There were two bathrooms, with a shower sink and toilet, and I never had to wait once to use them.

Overall we were extremely happy with our room, with the only negative being the noise from the road outside. It was quite warm in the room so we had the window open, which let in even more noise. If you can - choose a room away from the road.

Room Tip: Any room not at the front of the hotel looking over the road. It seems rooms that don't have a s...

Dear Nikki,

Thanks for your review and it is great to hear that the hotel was just what you needed.

Good to know that as a guest staying in our non en-suite room that you had no issues with waiting to use the bathrooms. We have kept a high ratio of bathrooms to rooms to make sure that no-one need have to wait.

Unfortunately our twin non en-suite rooms are on the road side and with the windows open there will be noise from traffic. Should you stay with us again then all of our double en-suite rooms and some of the single non en-suites are away from the road.

Kind regards,
Claudia

Needed an inner city location for an early tour start the next morning. This hotel suited well!

Staff were fantastic (Cristina and her co-workers) and very helpful. They all went out of their way to assist even when not sure themselves!

Only point to note! Stairs, and lots of them... Not lift access! No air con either. But! Forgive them this and you will enjoy your stay!
On a side note! Cafe Riva closes too early to be useful, so try and find a better place to eat

The rooms are modern, clean and suitable for an inner city stay!

Room Tip: Book direct with them and save! And the lower the room number the less stairs to climb! Room 19 was...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind words towards our staff in particular Cristina. It is always good to know that individuals are recognised for going that extra mile to make sure our guests feel welcome.

Cafe Riva on the ground floor is open from 6am to 4pm and is ready to serve our guests at any point during those times. The local area has so many good evening options that we always encourage our guests to sample other local restaurants and we are happy to give recommendations.

Kind regards,
Claudia

on entry it's not a traditional hotel reception, in fact just an office up on the first floor, however staff are very friendly and informative. they showed me to my room.....at the back of the cafe downstairs, my initial thoughts were "what the****** " but to my surprise the room was spacious, modern, very clean with air con. good sized bathroom with rain type shower head and normal shower head.free view TV, tea coffee etc as standard.
Breakfast was available in the "Cafe Riva" via a voucher i had been given, great full breakfast served by friendly staff.
would stay again, hope all the rooms are similar to this one.

Dear Paul,

Thanks for your review. You are not the first person to be intrigued about the location of your room on our ground floor. The hotel and Cafe Riva are under the same family ownership and combining the hotel rooms on the ground floor alongside the cafe made sense. It means our guests get modern recently refurbished rooms right next to our cafe. No need need to travel far before you will be greeted by a waitress and your choice of fresh breakfast options.

I hope that you chose to stay with us again and you can always request your original room or try some of the rooms upstairs.

Kind regards,
Claudia

We stayed in this hotel on a Saturday night after a night out in the big smoke. We wanted something relatively close by for a reasonable price. Though this hotel still seems quite a lot of money, relatively speaking for London it's good value. The thing that struck me most was the lady who greeted us on arrival at reception, she could not have been more helpful! It really said a great tone for the stay. The hotel seems committed to customer service, sending a detailed directions email in advance and a thank you email after our stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and a fairly good size, though in central London it's far from spacious. It was warm but a fan was provided. The biscuits on the pillow were a nice touch! Thanks for an enjoyable stay. PS Be warned there's quite a lot of stairs - not suitable for people with proper mobility difficulties.

Dear Lucy,

Thank you for your review and pleased that we could offer you a place to rest your head after a night out in London.

Thank you for the extremely positive feedback on our Receptionist and for appreciating all the timely communication before and after your stay. It is also really good to hear that our biscuits were appreciated. They are a relatively new addition and hopefully go well with the selection from the Birchall Tea Company.

We hope to welcome you back to stay when next in London.

Kind regards,
Claudia

Such a welcome on arrival, help with checking in using computer, always cheerful and helpful staff - made our stay great and would go back again. Breakfast was good, with choice of poached, fried eggs if required. Great time, thank you
