“very convenient position”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

I came to this hotel few weeks ago literally just to go to sleep as i check in late and i needed to check out early in the morning.

for what i saw, it was a nice hotel. More for bussiness than leisure. The staff were professional (thank you Brian for your help!).

Othrwise it's a kind of basic hotel. Do not book this hotel if you want a romantic plan in london, but if you are in the area for work go for it.

Be sure to know where is the hotel as i praticly missed it, the sign isnt very big.

Dear Philip,

Thanks for taking the time to review our hotel despite your visit being brief.

As our hotel is right next door to the tube station it can come as a surprise to be so close. As you found out within a few steps from exiting the underground. I will take your feedback on board and look at ways to make our entrance stand out more.

Kind regards,
Claudia

Hotel was basic, service was ok. I. Future we would probably stay at a travelodge for similar money. The hotel was hard to find as it was just a door way within a row of cafes etc. there was no air conditioning just a fan in a tiny room on the hottest day of the year in London!

Dear Guest,

You are correct to say that our entrance is a doorway next to the ground floor Cafe Riva which serves delicious breakfasts to our guests. We always do let our guests know in our confirmation email that the entrance is a few steps away form the underground station and can be easy to miss as people can't believe we have such a close location.

Our rooms are simply designed to create a calm space away from busy London. They are cleaned to a very high standard, we provide high quality fluffy towels and bed linen. Perhaps you did not get to try and enjoy our selection of complimentary Birchalls Tea options and complimentary biscuits?

Air conditioned rooms are available on request. Again we do not advertise as having air conditioned rooms apart from our single ensuite rooms and room C & D.

Kind regards,
Claudia

You won’t find a big sign identifying this place and it took me a few sweeps of the area to the small entrance by Borough station leading up a flight of stairs to the Office. Thereafter the very helpful receptionist guided me back downstairs, out of the front door, through the adjacent cafe to my ground floor room. Very small but with everything you need including tea/ coffee. A small misty glass window - not sure what was outside but considering where this is located remarkably quiet. I give it 4 stars as the bedsprings had probably seen better days and perhaps not as comfortable as it should be particularly when you are forking out £150 night! Which is still relatively 'budget' for London believe it or not. Otherwise no complaints and will remain on my books for a future visit.

Dear Sanjaya,

Thank you for staying with us and we are very pleased to hear that you will be considering us for future stays.

You stayed in one of our ground floor rooms which is on the same level and ideal for breakfast in the morning in Cafe Riva.

As an independent business in my family since 1966 the cafe and hotel have evolved around the changing needs of the local area.

I'll look into the bed as we use very good quality mattresses and these were purchased recently. So they certainly should not be uncomfortable.

We do have rooms with larger windows and would always say that our location for transport and seeing the rest of what London has to offer makes up for not having views.

Kind regards,
Claudia

A nice small hotel with excellent service, nice clean rooms and a good location, just above the Borough subway station, nice and quiet during the night, but no breakfast included, there is a nice cafe on the ground floor that has OK prices.

Dear Tor,

Good to read your review and pleased to see that we met your expectations on location and service.

We don't include breakfast in the room rates unless included at the time of booking. For some people the fact we have Cafe Riva on the ground floor which is under the same ownership, means that guests can choose from a wide range on the menu and choose how much they want to spend based on what they select.

We hope to see you here again in the future.

Kind regards,
Claudia

We booked a twin room with ensuite and found the room well appointed, tastefully decorated and the ensuite good quality fittings. All in all a comfortable stay that was close to everything. The staff were very helpful and even carried my bag a further two flights of stairs (we were on the third floor). The only slight difficulty were the stairs which were very narrow, so difficult to negotiate with a suitcase. We also had difficulty finding the doorway in which is tiny. Perhaps they could paint it a bright colour? Would thoroughly recommend it as value for money.

Dear Irene,

Thank you for your review.

I am very pleased to hear that the twin ensuite room your stayed in met all your expectations, it is always good to hear positive feedback so that we know we are still getting it right.

As you mention in your review the stairs are narrow and we don't have a lift. Our staff do offer to help with bags as we want everything to be as easy as possible for our guests.

Although we can't change the stairs we do have ground floor rooms on request and we are continuously making improvements to the rooms. All our twin en-suites are having new shower rooms fitted as I write.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Kind regards,
Claudia

A fabulously comfortable hotel - just rather strange to visit at first - with a tiny door leading off of the main street and a set of stairs up to reception. but what the hotel lacks in first impressions is very much made up for by the customer care on offer from the staff, the well appointed rooms with exceptional showers! Needs a few mirrors - but otherwise a really comfortable stay. And breakfast? This is taken in the café next door, and the staff and food there are as great as the hotel. Many thanks to Claudia and staff.

Room Tip: Ask for the type of room you prefer - and leave it to the staff to advise you - they do their best t...

Dear Franc,

Thank you very much for your review of our family run hotel. I am really pleased to hear that our staff made you feel welcome.

You are right to say that our entrance is very narrow, and I will be looking into ways to make it stand out more, however once inside we have a wide range of rooms to meet all the different needs of our guests.

I will definitely take on your feedback regarding the mirrors in the rooms. This can easily be added to our ongoing refurbishment of the hotel. Always great to have feedback.

Good to know that our cafe under the same ownership, Cafe Riva was just as much a success.

Hope to meet you again.

Kind regards,
Claudia

My friend and I booked a twin room with shared bathroom at London City Hotel for our first 4 nights in London. I landed that day and found the hotel easily - it's right next door to Borough tube station which was really helpful.

Our room was small, but for London it was expected. We had a sink, tv and wardrobe in the room but still enough space to manoeuvre around. The shared bathroom wasn't a problem and was located just across the hallway. There were two bathrooms, with a shower sink and toilet, and I never had to wait once to use them.

Overall we were extremely happy with our room, with the only negative being the noise from the road outside. It was quite warm in the room so we had the window open, which let in even more noise. If you can - choose a room away from the road.

Room Tip: Any room not at the front of the hotel looking over the road. It seems rooms that don't have a s...

Dear Nikki,

Thanks for your review and it is great to hear that the hotel was just what you needed.

Good to know that as a guest staying in our non en-suite room that you had no issues with waiting to use the bathrooms. We have kept a high ratio of bathrooms to rooms to make sure that no-one need have to wait.

Unfortunately our twin non en-suite rooms are on the road side and with the windows open there will be noise from traffic. Should you stay with us again then all of our double en-suite rooms and some of the single non en-suites are away from the road.

Kind regards,
Claudia
