Had dinner and afternoon here tea. Omg everything about this place is heavenly. The place , history , character , friendly staff…. The food is divine. The desserts in the afternoon tea were a Japanese work of art. The staff are super friendly. …
The outside garden in summer is lush & peaceful .

We were attending the Burn’s night whisky dinner at Melody’s, so we decided to stay at the hotel for the night. The hotel is a lovely little gem where you wouldn’t expect one. Nicely refurbished rooms and very hospitable staff. Not much cupboard space - OK for us as we were there for the night, but it will be a problem if staying for longer. Breakfast was included in our rate but unfortunately it was a rather poor affair - it reminded me of the breakfast one gets at the US motels. The a la carte menu looked interesting but they wanted to charge us an additional £10 per head if we ordered from it. It’s better to book a room without breakfast and then order from the a la carte menu.

I visited with my wife to celebrate a friend's birthday in mid-December for a Sat and Sun night.
The good points:
1. The hotel exterior and lobby area looked lovely and festive
2. The bar area was comfortable
3. Overall the hotel was warm, clean and well maintained.
4. Check-in was efficient (without being in any way warm, welcoming or personal).
5. Breakfast area was pleasant and continental breakfast items were good and plentiful.

The not-so-good points:
1. We had booked a junior deluxe room as a step up from the standard room but found ourselves in the annex building to the main hotel which was far less atmospheric and slightly cold.
2. The piped music outside the front area of the hotel was quite loud and intrusive to our room in the annex building
3. Location is non-descript - in an in-between location between the bustle of Kensington High Street on one side and Hammersmith on the other. However the links to the train lines and underground is great as you are only 5 minutes walk from a selection of 3 different stations. Also there is a bus stop directly outside that services Kensington High Street up to Kensington Park very frequently.

The bad points:
1. We had an issue with the room cleaning on the first morning - our room was never cleaned between when we left in the morning and returned from our day out in London at around 5pm. As we came back into the room, there was a cleaning staff member outside our room who asked if the room had been cleaned - we said no and asked if it could be (as we were leaving again shortly). When we stopped back at the hotel around 7:30 we noticed that the room still had not been cleaned. We mentioned this to reception who told us that we should have left out a sign out to notify that the room was meant to be serviced (never saw such a sign, was never told about such a procedure at check-in). At this point we were a little upset at the treatment but just asked that fresh towels could at least be delivered to the room. When we returned from the birthday celebrations later that evening, no towels had been delivered. Now pretty upset, my wife went to the night manager and explained our situation - he said that apparently we had told the housecleaning staff that we didn't want the room cleaned ..... at this stage you can imagine our tempers were not great (and read the majority of my other reviews, we don't make these complaints lightly or often). To be fair, the night manager did try and calm the situation down by making an offer of breakfast on the house next morning (albeit with little by way of extended apology for the mix-up).
2. Next morning, we attended breakfast - it was not clear to the breakfast manager that we were entitled to the breakfast, despite the house manager on reception telling us that the restaurant/breakfast manager knew about us - another miscommunication
3. We asked for a cooked option at breakfast - to be told that it would be at an additional cost ..... now I'm picking at small things here but I would have expected the hotel to try and 100% make sure that aggrieved guests be taken care of and a full breakfast be offered, not a slightly cheaper continental version .....

Unfortunately you can tell that this left a sour taste in our mouths and we wouldn't be recommending this hotel to anyone.

Room tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel, not the annex

We stayed at the hotel 20th Oct for one night. When we checked in the reception asked for a card and took 50 pounds deposit. It was removed from my bank account straight away. I have still not received it back. I have called twice about it.
Also our room was in a weird part of the hotel with no opening windows. Unlike the photos on the website.
Breakfast was good tho and the location is great.
I just want my deposit back.
The room cost 166 pounds that night .

I love this gorgeous hotel, very nice in every way, but also it is set in a small park while being near all the transport and businesses. This is a great location if you are heading out to Heathrow in the morning. Easy and scenic bus into the city center. Modern room has lovely historic features, breakfast in the restaurant is elegant. The patio areas overlooking the park are just wonderful for the evening cocktail.
