“Great NORTH London Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

This hotel is located on the north ring road into London, although it is classed as Golders Green in the name it is nearer Finchley. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good - it is self service with cooked option and everything from pastries to cereal yoghurt and toast. BE AWARE that this hotel is 1km from the nearest tube station but there is a regular 24hr bus service outside the hotel to Finchley Central Tube. If you are lone female I felt it to be a safe place to walk around. The rooms were well furbished and the shower lovely and powerful.

Room Tip: Ask for room away from road (but even the roadside is not noisy)

Have stayed here on numerous occasions throughout 2013 and have consistently found this to be an excellent base for North London. What makes this hotel stand apart from other budget hotels is the well-trained customer service focussed staff.

The rooms are well-sized for London and always very clean. Despite the location right next to the North Circular you can rarely hear any noise from the road. The hotel also offers free parking; on the rare occasion I arrive late and the hotel parking is full, I have been able to find on street parking adjacent to the hotel.

The hotel serves a limited menu in the evening, however this is always good quality and a safe choice when staying. Breakfast is served in the main dining room too, and offers a separate
Kosher offering too.

The staff are always welcoming and helpful; it is clear they are well trained which make a stay at HIX Golders Green a good choice.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the car park avoid the main road.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night on 01/01/14 as we traveled to London to see the PDC darts world championship final. It started well but ended up feeling annoyed and ripped off! It cost us £109.50 for 2 adults.

Checking in staff were friendly and helped us book a taxi and gave us great advice about catching the bus to the O2 Centre rather than paying for a taxi. The from was clean. That's the good stuff!

When we booked were we're looking for a hotel close to the location of Alexandra Palace so we wouldn't have to travel far and a hotel that offered a restaurant so we could eat before going out. We didn't want anything fancy just simple bar food like you would normally expect. When we got to he hotel there was a notice on reception saying no food would be served until 5th January as it was Christmas! What a stupid excuse, a chef that can't work because of Christmas, a very busy period! It does not state this on the website when booking! If so we wouldn't have booked! When it came to breakfast, well I'm not sure what to say. There were no staff around so we were unsure if we waited to be shown a table or helped ourselves. After waiting around for 15 minutes we decided to help ourselves to a table. We have to clear the previous peoples plates ourselves and wipe he table. There were no mugs for tea or coffee and no glasses for the juices! They only had bread rolls, a few pieces of fruit, beans, scrambled eggs, and sausages. We managed to see someone come out of the kitchen who worked there and asked how long the wait was for the bacon, and we were told they would have it tomorrow and advised to come back then! It's a hotel and we had stayed our night and had 24 hours to wait for bacon! We were a few minutes walk from a massive tesco! Unbelievable excuses! We managed to find a plastic cup and had to share it for some orange juice and just left!

My advise, go somewhere else! This place is crazy! Or take your own bacon just in case you have to wait 24 hours too!

The worst hotel ever! Arrived pressed the help button on the barrier got told CANT YOU HANG ON IM BUSY.We went she told she was short staffed and proceeded to have a row with us.Got our room card which did not work the cleaner had to let us in to find two twin beds we payed for a double bed rang reception who sent a porter to us and zipped the beds together, was then told we have no double duvets so had to have 2 single one. Went down to reception asked them to book us a taxi for 17.30 we sat a waited a taxi driver came in a said taxi for room 410 and the reception said it was booked for room 210,poor driver sat their waited for half an hour then came in again and said taxi for room 410 which was us,reception said they did not book it at 17.30 funny that as my husband stood and watched him phone our taxi.

The breakfast area was dirty had to clear our own table went up to get breakfast (FULL ENGLISH) was told that bacon will be served tomorrow so had scrambled egg and 2 toast.

The whole experience was terrible i would never stay in a holiday inn again, so please people book somewhere where you get spoken to and treated like a person.

Room Tip: Make sure you get what you pay for.

worst check in experience at this hotel. why would you tell your guest that their room should have been cancelled due to payment issues with the travel agent. This is the information that greeted me on check in. There was no purpose to this statement as the receptionist said he required nothing from me. Then i asked what he would have done if they had followed their policy and all i got but that didn't happen , you still have a room . All i wanted was clarity of their position. it took me nearly 10 minutes to get the answer i expected which was " they would help me find another room or reinstate my booking. This answer came from another receptionist and this put me at ease. i asked the original receptionist did i really to know about the payments issue and that room should have been cancelled. He replied no, so lesson learned the guest doesn't need to know all the details.
The room was fine and i didn't eat in the hotel due to me working night shift. I slept perfectly the next day.
The location of the hotel was good for the Brent Cross shopping centre but alot further than i thought from where the bus dropped me at Golders Green. Can see the advantages of staying there and getting the bus to central London. Bad experience of reception leaves me preferring other hotels

A one night stay for the X Factor Final. Amazed to receive a courtesy call the day before to check that all was in order with our booking and whether we had any special requirements, which was much appreciated. Lovely welcome at desk (including mince pies!) by Heidi who helpfully looked into booking a minicab for me. Room and en suite spotless, bed and sofa bed comfy, nice pillow choice. Extremely quiet, no banging doors through the night. Fantastic breakfast; cereals, pastries, hot items, good coffee machine. Slight issue at check-out regarding online booked price and hotel records, but Shawina handled it with efficiency and courtesy. All staff went out of their way to be helpful, friendly and polite. Free wifi, parking, excellent location - will be returning!

Room Tip: For the quietest rooms, ask for one away from lift and overlooking car park
