“Cozy, good location”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

Number Sixteen St. Alfege Passage is a small B&B perfectly located within a short walk of the Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, Park, Docklands Light Rail, and other historic Greenwich attractions. A short rain ride took us to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Our room, the Blue Room, was pleasant though not large enough to spread out our luggage conveniently. The proprietor, Robert, is a charming actor and TV personality with a long career in drama and entertainment. My full English breakfast was ample and tasty, although my wife, who dines more lightly, noted that her bread and rolls were not fresh. The location, on a narrow side street, was mostly quiet, but in open-window weather subject to occasional annoying voices from late-night pedestrians. Our 125 pound room rate seemed on the high side, but hotel accommodations in the choice part of Greenwich tend to be expensive, and we would probably stay here again if we come back.

Stayed here for two nights. Hosts great fun. Perhaps the most unique aspect was the setting. Despite being 2 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Greenwich, the atmosphere was lovely and relaxing. Would be a 5* but room quite small and fairly basic. Stay could be made more special by little extras like chocolate on pillow, flowers in room, for example. Perhaps that is not the vision they have. Fun quirky decorations though. Breakfast delicious and good overall value considering location. Recommend jumping on the Clipper into Central London, especially if you are as lucky as we were with the weather!

Loved it here. Was in Greenwich for a concert. Yes single room tiny but quaint. Robert and Nick are fantastic. Best breakfast you can imagine. Can't see me ever staying anywhere else in London let alone Greenwich and loved watching it when it was on Hotel Inspector.

Stayed two nights with my wife and son on our first trip to London, from Indianapolis. We had the two larger rooms and really felt at home. Very comfortable and charming inside. Hosts were wonderful - felt like we were family guests. Location is quaint and memorable, on interesting pedestrian passageway with other townhouses behind a historic church. Short walk to Greenwich sights, pubs, etc. Water taxi is also nearby as one option we liked for a quick trip to center of London, etc. We would definitely stay here on our next trip to London.

We recently stayed at this B&B after my partner saw it reviewed on the Alistair Sawday site. We stayed 3 nights. We were greeted and made to feel very welcome by Robert and Nic and the rest of the stay did not disappoint. Our room(The Blue room) was cosy and warm(it was a very cold weekend) and the bed very comfortable. Beautifully and tastefully furnished, we slept so well in the comfortable 4 poster bed in this lovely room full of antiques. In fact the whole B&B was furnished with delightful and interesting antiques and artefacts. The bathroom was very small but this was understandable due to the nature of this early Victorian house. If you prefer a bigger bathroom with a bath, then the other double is best for you.
Robert and Nic were fanatastic hosts and breakfast in their lovely basement kitchen was excellent. Robert's engaging anecdotes kept us amused whilst breakfast was served and cooked by the good man himself.
This is a unique place to stay which we thoroughly enjoyed. In the centre of Greenwich but a short walk down a very quiet road, we will definitely return

Room Tip: The Blue room only has a small bathroom with a shower. If you prefer a room with a bigger bathroom,c...

A great welcome from Robert & Nick for their very local and convienent B&B. Robert will entertain you with his anecdotes over a cup of coffee in the kitchen and help you with places to go and see.Very close to the the DLR, 5 minutes away, Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum and the Village. This wasn't like London centre with the mass of people you always get for the main tourist areas. Lots to do and plenty of places to eat. It was like being in a small town 50 miles from London. Only 30 minutes to the main stations and really nice train ride overground through Canary wharf.

My husband booked us a night here for a birthday treat as we only live the other side of London but had no time for a long trip away. We arrived on the very exciting DLR to the Cutty Sark station and within minutes were sitting having a welcoming cup of tea at No.16. We were staying in the Yellow room and after a day of bric a brac shopping and a local plate of whitebait we could think of no better way to spend our Saturday evening than sitting reading under a blanket in our cosy room watching the snow fall across the lamplights and church outside - it seemed like we were in a Thomas Hardy novel.

After a mighty fine cooked breakfast and another chat with Robert, the owner, we decided to take the boat home along the river and while standing on the dock with 2 vintage suitcases we had purchased from Greenwich market we felt very well travelled.

I can't emphasis enough how Mr Gray has managed to create a homely but stylish B and B without falling into the overhyped "boutique hotel" trap that seems to be hitting smaller lodging establishments at the moment.

Overseas visitors will be delighted with the Englishness here and I would recommend all Londoners to take a night off and stay at no16.

Room Tip: The rooms are a little bit wonky due to it being an old building but this is a positive not a negati...
