Passfield Hall is definitely a diamond in the rough. Me and buddy stayed 3 nights here for New Years Eve 2008 and were absolutely delighted. For just under 60 USD per person per night, you get a spacious, immaculate room complete with a keycard-operated door, closet, desk, comfy bed, and daily housekeeping. The showers and toilets were communal, but were extremely clean. Did I mention that breakfast is also included? You have a choice of 6 items from a buffet stocked with eggs (scrambled and hardboiled), ham, sausage, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, and baked beans. You also have a selection of porridge, cereals, toast, hot milk, tea, and coffee. The reception is open 24hrs and the staff is extremely friendly and accomodating. On our first night the keycard lock had malfunctioned and the receptionist quickly rectified the situation by moving us to a different room. There is even a room where you can leave your bags in the event that you arrive prior to check-in. Passfield Hall also has a common room with a 50+" HDTV, a computer room, and a small liquor bar although it was not open during our stay. It is within 10 minutes walking distance from the Euston metro station. Unbelievable value. I will always stay here on future trips to London!

This is another one of the LSE halls of residence in London. This one is in a great location - five minutes from Euston station (and thus from the great bus interchange at Euston), about 10 or so from St Pancras and Kings Cross. It is in the middle of many buildings and residences of various University of London units (so it feels safe but has a mix of ages and nationalities and a buzz from the students) and less than 10 mins from the British Museum and then down to Covent Garden, and so on. (And if you are not feeling well, the British Medical Association headquarters are a few metres away!)

Mainly catering for single rooms, no en suite toilets. The rooms (and the separate toilets and showers) were nicer in Passfield than in some LSE halls. This one had breakfast included in the approx 35 pounds/night price (Sept 07): the usual six things from a variety of choices. The vegatarian sausages were much nicer and taster than the bland meat ones.

Some aspects of the faciliites showed lack of attention: no hangers in the room cupboards, no mugs or glasses in the kitchen, lack of toilet paper in some toilets a day after being reported, tea/coffee machine in canteen in awkward place and no facilities to dispose of tea bags. These are all minor blemishes. I had two quiet nights and would definitely stay there again.
