The front door is around the corner and down an alley, so don't be dismayed if you can't find it right away.
The staff, and I believe owner, was great. Super friendly and chatty, really interested in each customer.
The food was delicious. Great Italian food. Just know that just an entree isn't enough, I'd recommend getting an appetizer on top of the bread & entree.

We found this place by chance in the theatre district. We were seated quickly in this fun, quaint hole-in-the-wall. There was a table of fresh ingredients for our caprese salad. The mozzarella was tremendous. The entres were served quickly for the theatre crowd. Very tasty. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying theirs as well. When asked directions to our theatre, the owner even walked us through the side streets almost to our spot.
We've had great Italian everywhere from Rome to San Francisco, and Giovanni's ranks right up there.

Giovanni's has some of the best Italian food I've had in my life. Having lived in Rome, that should be saying something.

The food is perfect, honest, and satisfying. The wine is excellent. The atmosphere is simply charming. Most importantly, the staff are warm, friendly, and welcome you immediately into the family. A candle-filled dining room filled with the autographed approval of dozens of visiting stars doesn't hurt, either. It's really a perfect place to go with friends, family, or someone special. Giovanni's - and it's head chef, too - are simply treasures in this city.

I've been here two nights in a row (over a three day trip) and would happily return for the third. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

It is clear the owner is paying people to put good reviews on this site. The quaint alleyway setting is about the only good thing about this restaurant - if you want appetizing food, forget it! They display a table of uncooked pasta noodles and breads, similating a coverspread from an Italian cookbook ... 'display' is the critical word here. It's as close as you'll come to seeing Italian food in this joint - what they serve is tasteless cafeteria food at best. DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY, and believe me, he'll try to soak you before you're done. When he starts promoting his 12 pound tomato appetizer to you, remember my words, RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We spent New Years Eve here at the start of 2014, and were made to feel extremely welcome, with a real party spirit. The service was excellent, and it was a super way to see in the new year. Set in a beautiful alleyway, perfectly charming with good food. We will be back!
