Description: Polpo is a bàcaro, a humble, Venetian restaurant serving simple food and good, young local wines within a modest setting, exposed brickwork, tin ceilings and copper bars. Several of the restaurants have basement bars - a great clandestine destination in their own right for drinks and a snack, or as a handy place to hang out while you are waiting for your friends to join you.

Really enjoyed lunch here with friends. We sampled a good cross section of the menu and were all impressed by the dishes. Arancini and fried stuffed olives are not to be missed. I particularly liked the octopus and potato salad - a real lightness of touch about this dish and a beautiful balance of flavours. Grilled lamb , caponata and basil and sliced flank steak, rocket & Parmesan were both full of flavour. We had two veggies among us and they also enjoyed their dishes - braised scallops, pancetta and peas was excellent. Good service. Just two little gripes - tables are too close and it's a shame they don't have wine glasses.... I don't like drinking my prosecco out of a tiny tumbler. (Actually they do have wine glasses, but only 4 in the entire restaurant we were told; our waiter was very sweet, he gathered them up from other tables as they were finished with ;).

A great social place for meeting, eating and drinking. The food was fantastic. Don't expect fancy dining but a great atmosphere and great food. Looking forward to trying the other places in the chain, sputinos and mishkins :)

Had a pretty good meal at Polpo on Saturday evening. Was a really nice sunny day so was in a good mood and probably feeling a bit generous. I liked the informality, we ate at the bar which was fine for the two of us. Pork and meat balls were tasty. The steak, parmesan and rocket pretty good. One of zucchini salads came with rocket rather than basil as on the menu. The tiramisu had a good flavour and exture but not enough booze and was too small for five quid.
We gave the feedback to the waiter and was surprised when we didn't have to pay for the salad or tiramisu. Thought that was good customer service. In the end though I'm not sure I'll be rushing back.

A quick review but the food was good enough to deserve a short review not a long one.

Nice restaurant, nice staff - great pizzas for small people.

But the high point was the ham hock risoto accompanied by a fennel salad. It was seriously good.

Thanks Polpo.
