Recommended by friends, decided to pay a visit. Waiters and waitresses welcome us with rather boring faces (at 2pm). Food nothing special, overpriced (tasted their lobster and noodles, nothing special). A waitress was so tired that she decided to lie down on a sofa of the main hall of the restaurant and sleep (!!) using a pillow and a blanket for more comfort (!!!). Never again.

A group of us celebrated Chinese New Year here. Food preferences varied, but there was plenty for everyone to choose from. The famous lobster noodles did not live up to their reputation- lobster fine but noodles in a gloopy, tasteless sauce. The traditional dishes such as fried tofu with greens, chicken and pork in a pot, sizzling beef, braised greens, were delicious. Monks vegetables and the scallops were tasty too. The service is good and efficient. Venue perfect as it is across the road from Queensway Tube. A meal for 6 with lots of Chinese tea and 2 bottles of wine came to £40 per head. This would have been much cheaper with more modest dishes. It has whetted our appetite for a return visit.

I have visited Mandarin Kitchen on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The Lobster is delicious as are the oysters. The staff have always been helpful and service good. We were even advised on one occasion that we had ordered too much food and the waitress made her recommendations accordingly. This place is always busy, reservations are essential.

When asked for a table for 3 we were greeted with a very stern 'have you booked' when I responded no I expected to be turned away, only to then be offered a table! Our order was taken by a miserable waiter who insisted on looking at other tables when taking our order apposed to making eye contact with us, no smile no please or thank you!? Our main meals we're deleivered whilst we we're still eating our soup and dishes and spoons whipped out of our hands!!? We had to ask 3 times for the bill and in the end had to get up and walk to the cash desk to pay!!!?? Food was however delicious but spoilt by such poor service :(
