This restaurant was very busy and we had to wait a little for a table, when taken to the table we were put in the basement near the kitchen with about 4 other tables so we were disappointed with the lack of atmosphere, maybe it was better around the corner or upstairs. However the food more than made up for it, we had soft shell crab in salt n pepper which was best ever according to my husband, my main course was delicious as well, the service was very good so we'd probably visit again and there were a few Chinese families eating there as well which is always a good sign!

After a day in London and just before catching the train home we decided to end the day in Chinatown. There are a good number of excellent restaurants around here but we decided on trip advisor's recommendations, to try the Mayflower. It 's just around the corner from what I consider to be the main part of Chinatown but not too far away. We had not booked but got a table for five straight away (it was early evening). The staff were pleasant and even moved us when asked, to a booth out of the way of the waiters traffic which I was grateful for. We had the banquet meal of duck and pancakes followed by rice, beef, sweet and sour, prawns and vegetables, all of which was plentiful. It was very fresh and as good as restaurants in the area we have tried before and better than others. So, we were not disappointed and would recommend this restaurant to London visitors without hesitation.

One of my favorite Chinese dishes is Mapo doufu. It's tofu with a hot chili sauce and ground pork. Not a fancy dish, but rather a traditional "family" meal. They serve it here just as I've eaten it in Hangzhou, China.

All the dishes on the menu are authentic. Great food, fun service. Well worth the walk from the Piccadilly Tube stop.

This tried and tested venue keeps up its standards year after year i don't even bother trying out new Chinese Restaurants when in China Town in London.
The über-efficient staff are not trying to establish relationships. They work, work, work and have no time for smiles but the food they deliver promptly is standard European-Chinese fare but well cooked and decent portions. The M1 menu for two is a quarter crispy duck and pancakes per person, crispy chilli beef, chicken in black bean sauce and a large portion of egg-fried rice.
The jasmine tea is topped up constantly without extra charge and the orange segments and hot towels are on the house.
The mostly Asian clientele is a recommendation in itself. Open till 4 a.m.

As with most chinese restaurants, you don't go for the decor or the atmosphere. You go for the food, and the New Mayflower certainly delivers.

There is always a queue so I recommend booking early. Even if you book, the likelihood is that you will still have to wait a little while, but not too long.

The food is good, authentic chinese cuisine. Consistently good, and I would recommend the lobster which is always succulent and fresh.

The price is about the same as with most chinese restaurants around the area, can't really comment.
