“Might be resting too much on their laurels”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Simpson's continues to try and recreate dining from a prior time but some of their actions are starting to look tired and artificial. The night we dined there most of the tables were taken up by Asian tourists who must have been part of a group tour. They were not properly dressed for Simpson's, a faux pas which would have prevented them from being seated in the past. The food was good with roasts from the cart still served at your table. The meat didn't seem quite as good as I remembered and the Yorkshire pudding was overcooked. The prices are very high with wine being particularly overpriced. Simpson't needs to change if they are going to survive.

“Not british at its best...............”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Visited this restaurant to celebrate my wifes 65th birthday on a package deal with The Savoy.
The restaurant is dated, the food was extremely poor, the staff looked fed up and bored, there was a pianist playing non stop modern jazz at full volume which was totally inappropriate. The Savoy Grill or Kaspars Fish Bar are head and shoulders above this outdated establishment which should be brought into the 21st century, a bitter disappointment for this occasion.

“British at it's Best”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

We went there yesterday to celebrate our anniversary. I don't know why we have not been here before, probably it's close proximity to Rules and many other excellent restaurants in the area are a diversion. The restaurant is like stepping back into Edwardian London. With an almost club-like feel, a very friendly club. Lunch time seems to be largely business clientèle, but we were made very welcome here. We were seated in one of the many booths, which I think was perfect. The roast beef was excellent. I thought the wines were a little expensive, though the champagne was fairly priced as were the liquors. We will return sometime after the game season wanes.

“Tipping The Carver”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

I was pleased to introduce my Daughter to one of those old customs that was taught to me many moons ago. Having had a hot wander through an event in Finsbury Park my thoughts turned to Sunday Lunch. A Short cab ride later we arrived at the entrance, hoping that my somewhat casual attire would be accepted. Entrance granted we were led into the heavily dark wooded panelled dinning room. instantly seated and dazzled by the brilliant white haze generated from the stiff very white table clothes and the starched bright uniforms of the Carvers. Sunday has to be Roast Beef accompanied by a very fine deep red wine. My daughter was duly instructed to tip the carver as he approached our table and a great lunch was set before us. I often imagined that the Titanic would have had a similar dinning facility and had decided that if I had been in the disaster in a room such as this I would of been happy to open a further bottle of wine and settle back in my seat for the final decent to the bottom of the sea.

Is it expensive ? .... yes of course, is it a little old fashioned ? Yes (thank god) and the greates delight they still have fresh yes fresh Horse Raddish and it doesnt come in a jar
