Transit: Village East is conveniently located roughly 10 minutes on foot from the Underground and National Rail services at London Bridge and Borough stations. Bermondsey Street is also frequently served by a multitude of bus routes: C10 (Abbey St); 381 (St Thomas St); 42, 78, 188 (Tower Bridge Rd); 21, 35, 40, 133, 343 (Borough High St).
Description: Village East restaurant in chic south London enclave Bermondsey Street is designed to call to mind a hip East Village establishment in Manhattan. It sprawls through a listed warehouse and glass-fronted apartment building and is decorated in polished concrete, rough wooden pillars, striking curved white chairs, and a wide open kitchen. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine while watching chefs hard at work creating the modern eclectic dishes that make up the Village East menu. In laymans terms, this means European flavours and techniques are coupled with South East Asian influences, resulting in some intriguing combinations. We had our eye on the seared scallops and caramelised pork belly with carrot puree and teriyaki glaze; and the West Cork beef burger with sauteed foie gras, caramelised onion, jumbo gherkin and chips, but if youre more in the mood for a steak, or fish and chips, theres plenty of that on offer too.

“Solid restaurant”
Reviewed 5 August 2012

Village East is a sure bet when you want a good cocktail and good food. If you're there and feel like having steak, try the chateaubriand. It's one of the best chateaubriands in London!

Bermondsey str. is loaded with good restaurants; some of which can be considered among the best in London at the moment. However, if you want proper cocktails, this is still the place to get them.

We were there, had three starters, 2 mains, 2 desserts, 2 cocktails, 3 glasses and still water and paid about £125.

“Highly recommended”
Reviewed 24 July 2012

I would happily recommend this restaurant to visitors of Bermondsey Street. The staff are attentive and kind and the food is very good. My favourite part was the truffles for dessert - especially at a lunch meeting I can't handle a full chocolate cake so two lovely chocolates served with my coffee was perfect.

“very disappointed”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

ordered from the menu - i have to be gluten free , so the choice was limited.. had to wait 35 mins for food to arrive.. had to ask where it was ! . i ordered the chicken...a pitiful piece of chicken turned up eventually, on a dreadfully over salted broth that i couldnt really eat and the 5 tiny new potatoes turned up several minutes later which are charged extra . the chicken was pink in the middle..i was that hungry i picked my way round it.. but complained when the waitress asked how our meal was. she took it to the kitchen but i heard no more.. there were at least 3 people who looked like managers ( floating about ,too busy being busy to actually do anything ) no apology no explanation just the bill ..! oh yes... and we took off the service charge which had been automatically put on . not impressed at all.. think they need to concentrate on giving value for money and good service rather than trying to just look the part.
i will be passing this review onto to the good food guide .

“Service? What service?”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

Very rude and dismissive front of house staff. Although the restaurant was half empty we were told there were no tables for Sunday brunch for another 1 1/2 hours. Were looked up and down and made to feel that we didn't fit the clientele required for this snooty establishment - even though we were dressed just as can be expected for gentrified Bermondsey Street these days. Can only recommend if one fancies feeling like having been wiped of someone's shoe after a trip to the "toilet enclosure" at Cruft's.

“Relaxed Bar/Lounge Area for Drinks”
Reviewed 7 July 2012

I came here for drinks with a group of people after work. It's about a 10 minute walk from the London Bridge tube stop right on Bermondsey. I definitely liked the vibe and decor of this place. It's quite a relaxed atmosphere with good clientele. It definitely has a lounge feeling with comfortable couches. They had about 5 beers on tap. I ordered the chips later in the night and they were decent. Another guy ordered the burger (£9.50) and it wasn't anything out of this world, but they were happy with it. There's a proper dining area too, but none of us sat down for dinner. I will definitely be back here for drinks again!
