Transit: Village East is conveniently located roughly 10 minutes on foot from the Underground and National Rail services at London Bridge and Borough stations. Bermondsey Street is also frequently served by a multitude of bus routes: C10 (Abbey St); 381 (St Thomas St); 42, 78, 188 (Tower Bridge Rd); 21, 35, 40, 133, 343 (Borough High St).
Description: Village East restaurant in chic south London enclave Bermondsey Street is designed to call to mind a hip East Village establishment in Manhattan. It sprawls through a listed warehouse and glass-fronted apartment building and is decorated in polished concrete, rough wooden pillars, striking curved white chairs, and a wide open kitchen. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine while watching chefs hard at work creating the modern eclectic dishes that make up the Village East menu. In laymans terms, this means European flavours and techniques are coupled with South East Asian influences, resulting in some intriguing combinations. We had our eye on the seared scallops and caramelised pork belly with carrot puree and teriyaki glaze; and the West Cork beef burger with sauteed foie gras, caramelised onion, jumbo gherkin and chips, but if youre more in the mood for a steak, or fish and chips, theres plenty of that on offer too.

“Nice little find”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Stumbled on Village East and wasn't disappointed.

Quirky venue and really friendly staff and a super menu.

Great selection of food and wine and very tasty, although I did think the salads were over dressed.

Great fine, but maybe just a little over priced

“great for drinks”
Reviewed 17 May 2014 via mobile

This place is very unassuming from the outside, but as soon as you step in the quirky and rustic decor takes you to a cool place.

The bar area is great for drinks and a chilled vibe.
The music is an easy listen that makes you want to do more than tap you foot.

Drinks are good, and decently priced for Bermondsey.

“Inventive and Contemporary”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Had a great meal here. Cocktails were strong and good. The whipped feta with cucumber was fantastic. I've never had anything like it. Croquettes were pretty standard. Soft shell crab sandwich was very good. Kofte was a bit spicy for my taste but my husband liked it. Its a good vegetarian option. This place was good. Good value for the price.

“Worth the 3 hour drive!”
Reviewed 10 May 2014 via mobile

My partner and I haven't had anything other than breakfast here but we often make the 3 hour drive because it is simply a real delight! Staff are so friendly you feel like a VIP when you enter as they all wish you good morning as you walk through the restaurant. It is absolutely faultless!
