Description: A refreshing dining and drinking destination in Hampstead, The Wells is an award-winning traditional British gastro pub in a classic Georgian building. Ever since Beth Coventry started revitalising Hampstead's pub and restaurant scene with The Wells in June 2003, the seasonal food and picturesque surroundings have been applauded by the locals, as well as earned positive responses in the Hardens and Square Meal guides. The varied, frequently changing menu showcases British food of the highest quality, prepared with carefully sourced produce which you can enjoy in the elegant, intimate upstairs dining rooms, or in the friendly atmosphere of the spacious ground floor bar. The range of hearty, reasonably priced courses include Rib-Eye Steak with Chips, Scotch Angus Hamburger, Corn-Fed Chicken Breast with New Potatoes, and Lamb Rump with Pomme Puree. Beer drinkers are well-catered for, with Black Sheep Bitter, Grolsch and Guinness on draught and regularly changing guest ales also available. There is also an international wine list and a selection of classic cocktails for you to enjoy. Chess, Scrabble and Backgammon boards are provided, and you can even play Solitaire with olives as counters as a pre or post-dinner snack. Wi-Fi internet access is also available throughout. On warm summer days, you can take your food and drink outside to enjoy under the sun and when winter sets in, The Wells lights up the open fire for a cosy ambience inside. Whatever the weather, The Wells is definitely the perfect pub and restaurant combination that you have been looking for.

We very recently had a 40th wedding anniversary dinner at 'The Wells' and the service and meal were superb and the staff (Ben and team) helped to make our anniversary evening very enjoyable for us and our guests.

We visited the Well's Tavern after being turned down for food at two pubs in Hampstead. Kitchens seemed to close early in pubs. We had stuffed peppers on spinach and basil pesto topped with baked goat cheese (very yummy), my son had a great burger and our daughter had a salad (pairs, blue cheese and arugula). Beers were great and service was very attentive. Atmosphere was great, so would recommend this as either a romantic inexpensive dinner or in our case a nice family meal.

We had a spontaneous visit to Hampstead, having not booked anywhere, and headed to a French restaurant we wanted to try - it was closed. We'd read good things about The Well's and thought we'd try on the off chance - being mid-August and London half empty they did have a table on a Friday night - we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent - starters & main course, we didn't have a desert. We both started off with a beer - perfectly served real ale. Suited our starters perfectly - my excellent mushroom and tarragon soup and my partner's fine ham hock. Wine was good too - white for my partner's beautifully cooked seabass and a thick cabernet to go with my burger with all the trimmings. The perfect meal to stumble home back down the hill from.

I visit the Wells regularly. The staff is nice, the cocktails at the bar are reasonably priced and prepared with care and professionality. The menu is not endless but every dish I've tasted, from duck (yum!) to fish was excellent, same for desserts (try the chocolate fondant). Plus, it's a lovely walk if you come from Hampstead Heath, feels a bit like being in a film. Recommended.

This is a recurring spot for me to meet up with friends and catch up for a drink, or two then maybe food and always comfortable place to hang out, often for longer than anticipated - it somehow induces a sense of relaxation for conversation that loses track of time. Great affordable wine selection, great range of cocktails - oh and of course - it is a great pub.
