Hampstead has a lot of restaurants..... that is the good news....Hampstead has a lot of bad restaurants........sad.
Unfortunately the restaurants are either poor, or chain restaurants. It seems always cloudy skies over Hampstead so there is no chance of spoting a Michelin Star. Strange isn't it in such a fashionable residential and visited area. Why? Unfathomable!
The long established Villa Bianca comes high on the admittedly short list of good restaurants in Hampstead.
It has been going for a long time (1988). Sited down a narrow street, Perrins Court, off Hampstead High Street it is a very popular local venue and serves very good Italian food in a friendly Italian atmosphere with efficient service. The decor is smart and, if you are an accountant and do not want to go completely over the top, it is certainly a place to take the girlfriend out for a special meal at not too expensive a cost.
The beef Carpaccio is the best outside of La Strada in Limberg (but who goes to Germany for an italian?) My special favourite is the veal with lemon and capers. Perfect but there is a wide menu to choose from. Don't expect innovation but you will get well cooked traditional Italian food.
The waiters sort of know their wines and for us recommended Sicilian or Sardinian wine depending on where they were born. Our party had a bottle of each and they were equally good.
Try to get a table downstairs but upstairs is OK and for that special occasion on a hot summers evening ask for the table on the balcony (even though you may be sitting next to an accountant.)
It is a good restaurant.
