Neighbourhood: Marylebone
Description: Marylebone is one stylish neighbourhood and Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant Ishtar is up to the challenge. The decor is smart and modern, with dining on two levels, including under cellar arches, very cosy. The menu includes all the things you love in Middle Eastern cooking, but updated. Try starter of grilled king prawns with garlic and parsley sauce, main course of grilled fillet of lamb with pastirma. Turkish coffee and wines are an absolute requirement.

I celebrated my birthday at Ishtar (Saturday,30th August 2014) the restaurant atmosphere was AMAZING as well as the kind, helpful and pleasant staff, especial Orksha and Borak. They were very welcoming and attended to my large party of guests remarkably.

The food was FANTASTIC, we had the set menu (3 course meal) Everyone loved their food and enjoyed the spectacular Belly dancer and live music. This was by far the best birthday celebration I have ever had and I will definitely be coming back as often as possible.

Thank you Ishtar.

We had dinner at Ishtar on a Friday evening. I think we arrived before 6pm, although we weren't offered the fixed price menu, which looks like very good value (we did see a group at another table with what looked like a fixed price menu, but perhaps they had pre-booked it). In any case, the meal we had was mostly very good.

As far as the food was concerned, my vegetarian dishes were very good indeed, whilst my husband's main course was average. We started with nicely presented grilled asparagus, parmesan & pine kernels with a very tasty salad dressing and hummus kavurma (hummus with sautéed lamb) and some complimentary flatbread and olives. Mains were a very good vegetarian enginar dolma - artichokes filled with mixed vegetables and served with couscous - and iskender, which was described as grilled lamb on toasted bread with yoghurt and tomato sauce. My husband said the lamb was a little chewy and there was no toasted bread. As we weren't 100% sure of the description of the dish (it wasn't until we checked the menu today that we confirmed that it did indeed say toasted bread), we asked for some more flatbread (for which there was a small but unexpected charge).

We also had a glass of champagne, a bottle of efes beer and a bottle of very pleasant cankaya white wine. With the optional gratuity of 12.5%, our bill came to £90.

Service was very good and quite friendly. We felt a little rushed between the starter and main course, but there was no problem when we asked for a little time to digest our meals before deciding on dessert or coffee. We were too full for desserts, so both chose Turkish coffee, which came with some complimentary Turkish delight.

All in all, this is a good, modern Turkish restaurant, close to Baker Street underground and walking distance from Lord's cricket ground, so it will be on our list of post-cricket venues for the future.

We had our first foray into Turkish food and we're not disappointed: this was a fantastic meal. The meze was excellent and the Turkish bread was a much more rustic and flavourful dipping medium than the usual pita. I had the chestnut sauce chicken which I would have again in a heartbeat and finished with good solid muddy Turkish coffee. They have us se delicious complimentary baclava which was less sweet but more flavourful than the Greek version.

We had a fantastic 3 course meal for 13.95 at this fantastic central London Turkish restaurant where you nearly see NO tourist
We had a smoked salmon on avocado and a baby chicken all done to perfection and a sorbet as desert
The service was friendly efficient and good,
The prices for the same food in the evening are a bit high

We went there on our London trip after a friend highly recommended this place. It was easy to find (close to Mme Tussaud's and Baker Street Station), yet away from the crowds of the tourists.

The food was really amazing. We are lovers of the turkish cuisine, and everything we tried here was of excellent quality and wonderful flavor. We had the eggplant sauce salad for appetizer, Iskender Kebab which was done without Doner, but the the lamb pieces were phenomenally tender, and eggplant kofte dish which was wonderful. The service was friendly and attentive, not intrusive and very helpful.

The place itself clean, simply yet tastefully decorated.

Will definitely be back.
