“Excellent food, but quite pricey”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

My husband and I were staying at the Elizabeth Hotel around the corner and stumbled upon Pere Michel while out for a walk. Not really expecting to get a table, we called in mid week to find the restaurant only half full. We shared oysters (wonderful) then I had Dover sole and my other half had steak. We thought both dishes were excellent. We shared the creme brulee. The service was very good. The restaurant is quite small and cosy. The only downside was that beside being charged VAT and service charge, we also paid a 'surcharge'. Not sure what this was for as it was mid week and not a public holiday. Perhaps many London restaurants do this, but all in all it was a lovely evening.

“Outstanding Experience”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Walking back from work late (really late) and entered the restaurant to inquire if they were still open. The place was empty and apparently their policy is if we are here and so are you, we are open. The food was incredible. At no time did I feel rushed or to be an imposition to them going home. If in the area, a definite go-to place for a meal. Great for one, a couple, or a small group.

“Great restaurant, excellent atmosphere.”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

We visited as an alternative to eating in the London Lancaster hotel across the road, which we were staying in for a conference on site.

Bread, olives and crudities on the table immediately. Shortish but very interesting and varied menu, and the starters and mains were obviously from top quality ingredients, delicious and substantial. We did not have the room for dessert, much to our disappointment.
We chatted to two other customers. One had been coming to the restaurant for special occasions and nights out in London (from Maidenhead) for over 20 years, which says a lot. Another had pooped round the corner for his evening meal. This is Sussex Gardens when all said and done!
Outlook was villagey, the road is a cul de sac. The atmosphere inside is cosy and french.

One of a very few restaurants clearly marked for a return journey.

We thought that at £50 for two starters and mains, drinks and gratuity, it was excellent value.

“Wonderful Restaurant”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

I have visited Pere Michel many times over the course of many years.

In an age of mindless celebrity chefs this restaurant just go to prove that great food and friendly service in an unpretentious setting is what eating out is all about.

There are no silly waiters with vacant expressions popping up every 5 minutes wondering if everything is alright.

And that is because everything at Pere Michel is alright and one is left alone to enjoy the food and conversation with one's dining companion.
