A wonderful little restaurant in Tooting. The food is excellent and the staff are always really friendly. We go regularly with a Taste Card, which makes the place even more economical and it would be a crime not to go.
The Lamb Dupiaza is delicious, as is the Chicken Tikka.
Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

We went to Onam's for lunch and were the only two diners during lunch!

Warmly greeted at the door and shown to our table. The service was friendly and dishes were served at adequate intervals. The gentleman who served us was most willing to engage in a conversation on keralan food and to make suggestions for our order. Our thanks to him.

The restaurant is small and cosy ( seats about 30) and on the whole clean in appearance although the wall near our table was quite grubby (possibly fizzy can marks?) and the under tablecloth gave off a musty smell. Bathrooms are clean. Indian music played discreetly in the background. There is a small bar. Wheel chair friendly.

The menu caters well for both vegetarians and non vegetarians and dishes from kerala and other parts of India are on offer. Starters range from £2.50 - £7.00., main dishes from £2.00 - £7.00 and desserts from £2.00 - £2.50. Chef's speciality which is either a veg or non veg thali is on offer during the weekend and costs £5.00 - £6.00. The dishes are reasonably priced and are reflected in the relatively small portions served.

For starters we opted for the masala dosa - an enjoyable experience: crispy, mildly flavoured potato filling and served with 3 sauces: coconut (a little over salted), carrot (fairly bland) and sambal (tasty but quite hot). For main course we had the Nadan Kozhi chicken curry - passable
with keralan parotta (bread) - a little tough and slightly over fried and Thoran - a cabbage and green banana curry - dry but very tasty. We also ordered Puttu - steamed rice cake with coconut which is very bland and needs a lot of sauce to give it some taste. Our choice of dessert was Payasam - a kind of rice or vermicelli pudding. What we had was over sweetened and quite runny. The mango lassi was light and perfectly prepared. All dishes were served on warmed plates.

Our bill including service came to £23.00. We may visit again and try out different dishes to change our assessment from 'average' to 'very good' I hope.

We discovered this restaurant in November 2012. Our son is studying in London and lives in Tooting Broadway. We were hungry and this restaurant is on the way to his place and we just stepped in. We loved the food. The price is very customer friendly, too. Since then our son has been buying take away meals from Onam whenever his student budget allows it. He has been very satisfied with the food, too. This year the 3 of visited Onam again in November.and were again satisfied. I am sure we will dine at Onam whenever we come to Tooting Broadway.
Let's hope other people discover this restaurant, too!

I had a quick £3 biryani at lunch time and it was delicious. The meal seemed to have been prepared for my order, a glass of water was given to me, the service was friendly and the whole experience was very satisfactory.
