“No Frills”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

Our recent trip to London gave us chance to stay in the City Road Travelodge. We didn't want anything fancy and this is a fine hotel if you just need a bed, a shower, and basic amenities. This no frills hotel served us well as a base to enjoy our London visit, All the staff were exceptionally polite, helpful and well mannered.

I stay at this hotel regularly (almost monthly) and have been doing so for the past 3 years. It has recently been updated and you can notice the changes. The new duvets, towels, beds, pillows, carpets and curtains are much appreciated.

I always ask for a room at the back of the hotel so that I don't have to look out of the window at my office but I have stayed in rooms in most parts of this hotel.

The staff are always friendly and the rooms are always clean, far cleaner than some non Travelodge hotels I have stayed in in Central London. The hotel can be noisy at peak times, if you are looking for a quieter Travelodge try the one at Bank which is smaller and I find that much quieter.

Perfect for 1 or 2 night stays in the City.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back or a "quiet room" if you are a light sleeper. They have some...

Me and the family are regular visitors to London and more often than not just bunk down in a Travelodge. Cheap and cheerful and just somewhere to get our heads down is all we want as we don't hang about in the hotel long enough to be bothered about comfort.
The hotel was clean and tidy and not badly located, only taking 10 minutes for kings cross.
My main gripe with this place is the noise. I work in the night time economy so I'm no old fart who moans about a bit of noise, and I'm not a fan of people that do.
However, this place was right next door to a strip club which had music belting out while 3am. I went to reception and asked for some ear plugs which they didn't have (bad drills). In fairness to the night manager he did say he would move us there and then but with a young family with me it wasn't ideal.
I was told the music would stop at 3am so they obviously new this was an issue. The music stopped at 3 which is when the club emptied and the big wig city boys left the club shouting and balling outside our room. This went on while around 6am which is when the doors slamming in the hotel started.
Long story short, if you want sleep don't stay here. If your not bothered its fine.

First time I've complained about the noise in a strip club.

Room Tip: Higher the better.

My Mother and I had a great experience staying at this hotel. It was very clean, great location, suited to our needs and most importantly it had lovely staff!
Being welcomed with a big smile made all the difference. It was a no frills stay but as long as you aren't expecting luxury you'll find your stay very satisfactory.

Very happy with my stay; the room was clean and fresh looking, and the reception staff were really friendly and helpful - couldn't have asked for more.
Just a bit disappointed with the powered eggs for breakfast, would have preferred fried eggs instead, but overall a very pleasant stay.

Don't except room 615 window doesn't shut properly we slept terribly. Its at the front of the hotel on a busy 24 hour road, bus stop directly outside, lots of buses stopping and starting adding to the noise. The staff your nice and helpful and moved us to a quite room at the back the next morning. Old St station a 5 min walk. We bought breakfast from local Tesco on the night before.Porridge pot very good add water.

Room Tip: Rooms are quieter at the back. Room 605 window doesn't shut properly lets in all the noise.

Unfortunately I don't have good things to say about this hotel.
Except for the nice workers and nice breakfast the room have no safe, no cooler, no hair fan, no shampoo/conditioner, the room is small and the bath is horrible to use! The location is nice.

We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed the hospitality of our staff and the breakfast provided, however we are very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with your room tuti22. Should a customer need a hairdryer, these are available from reception on a first come, first serve basis. Furthermore, whilst all our rooms are standardised across all our hotels and are furnished to the same standards, we are sorry to learn of your unhappiness with the facilities offered in your room, and we hope we can welcome you back to a Travelodge again in the future!
