3 weeks since a curry and it was one of those days when I couldn't contemplate anything else. The West End has never been much of a destination for Indian food - far better can be found in the neighbourhoods - but as we were meeting friends in Soho for drinks on the Bank Holiday Sunday, I researched on TA and dragged them a little reluctantly up to Percy St afterwards.
Town was quiet, as were most eateries, but Chettinad was busy (we were lucky to get in, not having booked) and I said to my other half "I have a feeling this will be good"
It was very good. Interesting menu, plenty for our veggie friend and portions large - especially the Aadu Chukka which was more like a mains than a starter. Delicious, and was shared around. Rice portions also large, beautiful fresh pakora. Mixed seafood was packed with fish and perfectly spiced. Only slight moan was that some of the food could have been hotter (temperature) especially the sambar side, which was barely tepid and a bit of a non-event.
It's not fine dining, but then neither are the prices, which are on a par with your local - so very good for such a location.
Service was efficient and cheery, especially Ranjit, who looked after us very well.
Thoroughly recommended, and will definitely be our curry of choice when in Town in future, though we will book next time!
