Description: For more than 30 years, Satay House restaurant in Londons Paddington has been attracting lovers of Malaysian cuisine from all over the capital and across the globe. Satay House Malaysian restaurant was given a rejuvenating makeover in 2006 by the designers of Wagamama so it now sports cheerful orange feature walls with hibiscus flower stencils, sleek leather upholstery and pools of warm light. Despite the name, the food isnt just about meat on sticks, though Satay Houses satay is likely to be the best in the city. Certainly the restaurant is a home-away-from-home for ex-pat Malaysians and there are regular visits from the Malaysian royal family. Large portions of fiery sambal and traditional rending curries offer the perfect opportunity to eat Hidangan style, or sharing with the rest of your table as in traditional Malay culture. All food served at Satay House is certified Halal and the soft beverages include several intriguing Malay offerings.

“Satay House”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2014 via mobile

Good food and excellent service. Other reviews complain of slow service but that wasn't our experience. Order arrived promptly and server checked in several times to make sure everything was satisfactory. Food was good (fresh and tasty) and the establishment was clean.

“Poor service, greasy food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

We booked the restaurant for dinner. The service was extremely slow, the waitress was polite but there were no apologies for the main courses coming 1 hour late. We were served starters after half an hour. The food was far from authentic, having lived in and visited Malaysia. The assam fish was overcooked and the squid (tumis) was undercooked. I do not usually write bad reviews but this restaurant has potential and the managers really need to improve its standards.

“Probably the best Malaysian food in London”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014

We had been to satay house 3-4 years ago and had loved the the food. So when our friends from USA were visiting we decided to book a table for a family evening meal. Great experience we were given the 'den' a table downstairs which was perfect since we had 2 young kids in a total party of 11. It was cosy and private. The food was absolutely brilliant and the portions were reasonable. The service was attentive but not intrusive and all in all had a brilliant evening. Would definitely visit again.

“great little find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

We found this tiny restaurant while staying at the Indigo Hotel in Paddington. It's only three blocks away and is well worth a visit. The food was excellent and the plates were heaped with food. We probably ordered too much for two but ate it all, it was so good. A reservation is definitely recommended as it's a very small place and once filled there is no where else to go so plan ahead and make a reservation.

“pretty authentic Malak food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2014

Love Malay food, especially Rendang, but it is so very hard to find good examples in the UK, quite by chance the Satay house was pretty close to our London hotel for a theater w/e. The satay was good as was the peanut sauce, which could have done with a little more spice heat. However the Beef Redang was truly SPLENDID. Pretty good value as well, not much more than a good curry at home with 2 x starter, 2 x mains, rice and a roti.
Shame it's so far away for us !
