I didn't expect much of this hotel as it's a bargain at the weekend (£528 for 2 nights which is cheap for a large room in London) but we were both really impressed. And I have a filthy hotel habit so I expect a lot from anywhere billing itself as 5 star.
The first good impression was being invited to check in online - I don't know why more hotels don't do this - and then being emailed at midday to say my room was ready.
The check in was warm and friendly and fast and the staff in the lobby were helpful when I asked for restaurant advice later on - I asked whether they had a concierge and the man said "we're all concierges, how can I help?" And booked me a table.
We were out all day on Saturday and accidentally left the do not disturb sign on the door which meant our room wasn't serviced (they left a note saying sorry, we didn't like to disturb you) but when we called, at 8pm, they sent someone up and our room was replenished and immaculate an hour later.
Other good points - FREE wi-fi! Free soft drinks in the mini bar! And fabulously comfortable beds, we slept incredibly well in our large king sized room. The hotel smells nice too.
If you're a tourist you should note that this hotel is in The City so it's a £15 cab ride to, say, Trafalgar Square but the tube is right next door so it doesn't matter. And you can easily walk to the river / the Tate / St Paul's cathedral in about 15 minutes.
I've just been invited to check out online and my bill was pushed under the door a while ago, with the complimentary newspaper (which was offered on both days) so I'll leave it there but we'll definitely be back.
Every member of staff we met was a credit to this hotel, which is impressive. Do go, you won't regret it.
