I've stayed last WE at Andaz Hotel London for one night. I have been really delighted by this hotel and would definitively recommend it if you like Lounge style, enjoy modern architecture this is the place to be. Rooms are large (free mini bar, very nice deco) Service has met my expectations with a lot of kindness, effciency and discretion in a word go for it you won't regret !

I'm a relatively frequent traveller to London. Most of the time my clients want me to stay out at the other Hyatt... the Churchill. I'd always been keen to try out the Andaz, and even the staff at the Churchill said I should try it when I could. The grass is always greener, they say. Well, to continue the metaphor, the grass is green at the Andaz. I had the opportunity to stay there over the past 7 days.

Immediately adjacent to the Liverpool railway and Liverpool Underground stations (Circle, Hammersmith, Metropolitan, and Central lines), the Andaz is located for convenient travel throughout the core of London.

It is previously the Great Eastern Hotel (and that is how the reserve charge comes through)... which initially caused a bit of a concern for me and my card company. It is a 6 story "traditional" looking red brick building that has been completely updated inside. They have taken a different approach to a front desk. It is simply a large black table with computers on the corners. The staff tends to hover in the limited lobby area intercepting you as you traverse it. It is an interesting concept, even if a little off-putting initially. It is rare to make it through the small lobby without a cordial greeting. The staff was uniformly excellent.

My room up on the 5th floor was above average with space to work, plenty of closet space, and a nicely appointed washroom. Temperature control was less than desired with heat levels and stuffiness around the 3-4 AM time, even with the fan set on high and the temperature at the minimum "-3"... disappointing, but typical of most hotels these days. My bed was comfortable and apart from the heat I had good sleep. Plentiful pillows provide good support.

It is often difficult to book the Andaz for medium to longer stays as it seems to be quite a popular location. This allows Hyatt to charge a slightly higher price than you will find elsewhere. Is it worth it? It depends. Are you working in "the city"? Are you coming in from or going to Stanstead? Then yes. There are plenty of high quality restaurants within 5 minutes walk... Cinnamon Kitchen, Kenza, Haz, to name a few. Hopefully you will get good directions from the staff to these places. I did not when some of them tried to use a map.

I transferred to the Andaz from the Churchill part way through my 11 night stay. The transfer was accomplished without hitch and my bags were waiting for me upon arrival.

So... was it worth it for me to change? When I return which Hyatt will I choose? Given that my clients are Embankment, Uxbridge, or Bloomsbury located, there is not enough benefit at the Andaz to pull me over to that side of town from the Churchill. While the Andaz is certainly a quality establishment, the Andaz lacks a certain community feel. It has no club lounge which means higher level elite guests receive a full breakfast (acceptable quality) with great service. I miss the evening snacks and discussion with others. While the Andaz is joined to public transport, the Churchill about 3 blocks from Marble Arch. Both areas have good restaurants. Will I be back? Yes and I'll enjoy being there, but the majority of the time the Churchill will win out.

Hello GeoMedic,

Thank you for taking the time to write your comments about your recent stay with us. Even though you usually stay at our sister hotel, The Hyatt Regency - The Churchill and this is your preferred hotel between the two, we are pleased to see that you found our staff excellent and the location of Andaz convenient.

We are delighted to read you liked the room and we're sorry to read that you experienced problems with the heating system, I have already passed your comments on to our Engineering team so they can look further into this issue.

Even though Andaz is not your favourite we are still delighted that you will mostly stay at the Hyatt Regency - The Churchill and still hope you may want to come back and stay with us at some point.

Best wishes,
Arnaud de Saint Exupery

'Reception' is a state of the art laptop event whilst consuming the courtesy wine, tea, coffee and sushi and is a great experience. My booking agency forgot to put my 9 year old son on there (their review wont be as kind!) but this was no problem nor effort for an excellent team who thrive on giving good service, with a genuine smile too!!

The room was genuinely 'king' and spotless. The young man who came up to make the extra bed obviously came back while we were at supper, he not only dropped off extra items but washed the cups up for when we returned - that is service!!! Surprisingly quiet too for a Saturday night and no 'duty' drunks staggering past in the early hours was refreshing.

Dinner at the hotel restaurant was excellent too. I usually can pick fault with somewhere and am finding it very very hard to nitpik the slightest thing. We set off the next day for a walk around the wonderful Sunday markets of Brick Lane and Spitalfields and that is a story in itself. Treat yourselves, I dont think you will be disappointed, we certainly werent.

Hello Jenks008,

Thank you very much for leaving all these very nice comments here. We are absolutely thrilled that you enjoyed our check-in experience and that our staff was able to sort out the arrangements for your young son. We're delighted to read that you also enjoyed dinner and the many local markets in the local area. For your next trip we could also recommend the Columbia Road flower market on Sundays or Broadway market on Saturdays.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

Best wishes,

The hotel is placed in prefect location if flying into stanstead.Right beside liverpool street station and you can connect to all areas on the underground. The room were very comfy .The staff were very helpfull and always on hand to answer questions.Very good restaurants there as well and something for all people. One thing i did not like was connecting doors between rooms it could be noisy if the people in next room were loud

Stayed here for one night in October 09. On arrival at reception I didn't get invited to take a seat and enjoy a drink, as some people have claimed on here. Reception staff were pleasant, though. Room was OK but nothing special - certainly not of 5 star standard. The remote control for the iPod dock was dead so I had to control the device manually. Some reviews mention the free minibar. It was OK, but nothing more than that. You get two small bottles of fruit juice, two bottles of water and some biscuits. That's it.

Bathroom was small and the waste water system was very odd and very noisy. Otherwise the bathroom was perfectly acceptable. The toiletries were only standard and nothing special.

The TV in the room was positioned in an odd place - down low on the wall near the corner by the window, rather than centrally. The TV was a bit on the small size for the size of the room (even though that was not large). Overall, we were cold most of the time. I tried to turn the strange heating controls to maximum and left them there but it had absolutely no effect on the room temperature at all, which remained on the cold side of comfortable.

We tried the Catch fish restaurant. Very expensive for what we got and not particularly impressive. The waitress struggled to speak English or understand what we were asking for. Perhaps the biggest problem for this restaurant - and management, please take note - was its positioning right next to the hotel's pub bar and nightclub. We were sat in the corner of the restaurant right next to a glass partition separating us from the entrance to the nightclub. It was a Friday evening. Many of the nightclub's customers banged hard on the glass when they passed or pressed their hands and faces to the unfrosted part of the glass partition, literally just feet away from where we were dining. Needless to say, the noise was very distracting. In addition to this, there was an enormous amount of noise occasionally coming into the restaurant by the entrance. I think it was noisy customers of the hotel pub. It was so loud, that, at times, I really thought some sort of fight or brawl had started within the restaurant.

Breakfast in the 1901 restaurant was OK but I would never pay the amount they want to charge for it (I think it was either £20 or £25). It's definitely not worth that!

I would stay here again as the location was great and I got it for a very low rate. I would certainly not stay here at the rates the hotel advertises on its web site. Finally, try as I might, I could not get the complimentary wifi internet to work. I tried on my iPhone and two laptops with no luck.

Hello kenc,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about your recent stay at Andaz. It is always good for us to hear good and not so good feedback as we are constantly improving the level of service we provide to our guests.

We are sorry to read that you did not experience the full Andaz welcome element and hope we offer you a warmer welcome on your next stay. I am however pleased that you found our members of staff pleasant.

The complimentary mini bar is something that most of our guests appreciate during their stay since it represents a cost saving element and a great complimentary amenity, but we appreciate your comments. I am sorry to read your comment about our pricing regarding your experience in our restaurants. Since we have five restaurants and five bars we try to offer alternatives for everybody. I really hope that during your next stay you are able to find something more suitable among our outlets.

Thank you once again for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back at Andaz.

With best wishes,
Arnaud de Saint Exupery
