This small hotel close to the British museum is a very good choice if you plan to spend a few days in London. We went back there for a second year in a row and we were always satisfied. The room are relatively small, but big enough, very clean and comfortable. It offers free Wifi and includes a continental breakfast. It can be a bit loud (the isolation between rooms is not perfect), but otherwise it is an excellent choice if one wants to spend a few days sightseeing in London, since also the prices are very reasonable.

Only five minutes walk from the British Museum, ten minutes from the nearest West End theatre and the Soho district, this hotel has a great location. The closest tube station, Goodge Street, is just minutes away on Tottenham Court Rd - there are steps up from the platform though, so watch out if you have a heavy suitcase.

On our first night, we found out that "shared bathroom" in this hotel means exactly that - a tiny toilet (watch out if you're tall - your knees will hit the wall when sitting down!) and even smaller shower room located on the floor above ours. For our second night, we paid an extra £20 for a twin room with ensuite - much better.

We had problems connecting with the Hotel's wifi network, something which hadn't been a problem anywhere else. Sometimes it worked, but often it didn't, or it dropped out frequently.

The hotel has no lift - fortunately the friendly, if rather brusque, Polish manager offered to carry our bags up the four narrow flights of stairs to our room. The rooms were clean, if basic and a bit shabby, with a kettle and tea-making things, bottle of still mineral water, TV and toiletries. Gower Street is quite busy most of the time, and our front-facing room was quite noisy, even at night.

Breakfast was provided - cereal, tinned fruit, tea/coffee/hot chocolate, warm bread roll, croissant and pastry. Again, basic, but it suited me fine and it was much easier than going to find breakfast elsewhere before staring the day's exploring. It even came with a friendly "good morning" from the manager and staff, so no complaints.

This hotel was cheap, and if not exactly cheerful, it certainly fulfilled all our needs for a good base from which to explore London.

Room Tip: If choosing shared bathroom option, ask for room on the same floor!

I'm not overly fussy regarding accommodation, but do expect a minimum standard when paying £65 per night. This 'hotel' did not meet those standards. The room was dirty, the bed uncomfortable, the taps in my room didn't work, the breakfast was cheap...etc., etc. I would only stay here again if I absolutely had to.

We took a trip to London this past July. So it is London, week before the Olympics, and I was making reservations only three weeks prior our arrival. This was just a first leg of a 6week trip and I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a hotel. There wasn't much left in my price range to choose from and I was hesitant to pick Gower House because of it's average reviews. But I wasn't dissapointed.
It's a B&B like many others in those rows of georgian homes in London. The room was in the basement, so that was a bit of a negative, but everything in it was brand new and clean, although modest. It seemed that the hotel was undergoing somewhat of a renovation, since there were stacks of new bathroom tiles sitting in a corner of their garden. Yes, there was a small garden where we took our morning coffee. Quite pleasant.
It was clean, the bed was comfortable. We only needed a place to sleep, since we were gone for the most of the day. I have no noise complaints, although we could hear the guests upstairs walking. (We live in an apartment building in Chicago, so I'm used to it). This may be an issue for some people.
I'd like to mention that the staff was helpful and nice. We arrived early in the morning, jet lagged, hours before check-in time. They let us keep our luggage there, gave some tips on coffee shops to hang out, and texted us that our room is ready three hours early. Once settled, we got different maps from them, tips on the neighborhood, and also on sightseeing tours. Made us feel welcomed.
It's location is wonderful. Just a few minutes from Russell Square tube station. Walking distance from the British Museum and also across the street is Royal Academy for dramatic arts and a university campus. It also close to St. Pancras and the beautiful Reneisance Hotel, and this area could be fun to explore. Lots of great, old, authentic pubs around, where you can get English breakfast for less, if you have your heart set on it, since the hotel only offers pastries, cereal and coffee/tea for breakfast.

Pretty basic, but was fine for one night. Room basic, but clean. Suited our needs, as we wanted to be fairly close to the theatre district. Not too far from the train station. Breakfast very basic. Well priced, you get what you pay for. Staff were friendly.

Room Tip: no lift, so if stairs are a problem, as for ground floor!
