We had the garlic prawns and pâté to start; rib eye and fillet steaks for mains.
Starters divine and readily amended to exclude dairy (I'm allergic). Steaks are absolutely perfectly cooked here - every time.
It's a smallish pub with that atmosphere you only seem to get in London - glorious anonymity despite the relatively snug and delightfully cosy booths and tables. Balanced lighting, phenomenal mix of jazz and piano music. Really well though out.

First thing - come hungry!
This is a really nice pub, hidden a minute walk from Holborn station. The food here is based mainly on beef, as you can understand and the portions are very, very generous. I had the 400gr rump steak, which is not easy to do well, and it was done perfectly. the burgers are very big (circa 375gr) and come with a big portion of chips, both done very good and all plates were cleared.
The staff are really nice and attentive, nice beer selection (and well prices for a central pub). A very good place to relax, drink and if hungry (and not vegetarian) eat and eat and eat...

I recommend the burger with cheese and bacon to everybody!Taste is delicious with the home made mayo and the size is unbelievable!!It is perfect with a glass of draft beer!Thank you for the staff!! I will be back!

Would never have ventured in if i hadn't read about it (we're country folk you see)!
Excellent food lovely staff watched the chefs cook the biggest sausages going definitely having them next time.

We were a table of 11 booked on a Saturday night before Christmas and I'm afraid it was not a good experience. After fairly decent starters the steaks themselves were a real let down. Only two of the 3 of the 11 of us got a decent steak (those who chose fillet or sirloin), everyone else's was chewy and though. The accompanying sauces were not good either, especially the green peppercorn sauce which tasted like chip shop curry sauce. When I pointed this out to the manageress she 'proved' it didn't by tasting it herself and saying "see?". The service was lacklustre at best. I asked for a chiller for the white wine to go woth pur starters - which had been put down on the table WITH IT'S SCREW TOP ON - and was told one was coming but it never materialised, there was no check back to see if everything was OK but worst of all, and this is just unforgiveable considering the Bountiful Cow charges high-end steak house prices - the meals all came with freezer chips. I don't know if there are different staff on at weekends to the ones who have merited all the previous good reviews here but frankly, they did not know what they were doing at all.
