It’s slower and less reliable than the normal train, yet twice as expensive....

total rip-off, the only reason it exists is that there is no real alternative if you need to go to west London.

We too it back to gatwick this past week. It’s the fastest and least expensive way to travel between the city and the airport. If you take a cab to Victoria station tell them to go to the gatwick express entrance as it’s the least congested and you buy your tickets from the machine and take the elevator down to the platform directly so when traveling with kids it makes it easy to navigate.

First train was cancelled and the second, which should arrive 30 minutes later, was delayed 15 min.
I missed my check in and my flight. From Gatwick Express office at Gatwick Airport I got a paper with stamp of the delays. But I couldn't get any compensation.

Trains are the preferred mode to travel from Gatwick, due to the congestion in the streets. We recommend obtaining Oyster Cards to get the best fares. We used the Gatwick Express on our way in to London, and tried the somewhat less expensive Southern Railroad going out. In our minds, it is worth the extra cost to use the Express. It is more comfortable, although the space for luggage fills up quickly. On the Southern Railway, some of the trains stop at several stations; there are some that take only slightly longer than the Express. We found it hard even with guidance from the attendants to get on the correct train.

In an attempt to reduce door-to-door transportation expenses, I booked two tickets from London, Gatwick to Victoria Station. I usually prefer a driver to avoid hassles and crowds. But this time I thought why not? The train leaves from the South Terminal and having arrived at the same, it was super easy to find and navigate to the train. Purchasing the pass in advance certainly helped. I got an all-day pass instead of a specific time, not know how long customs would take or having delays. It worked out great. It took a little over 30 minutes as I recall. But make sure you take the EXPRESS. Arriving in Victoria, if you're not familiar, can be a bit daunting. It's rather large with an abundance of services. Not knowing which exit to take to get to our nearby hotel got us a little confused. Planning that out beforehand would have saved us some time.

Great service from the airport. Easy to catch and very affordable. Much cheaper than a taxi to central London and a third of the time.

Gatwick express advertises that from Víctoria to Gatwick in 30 Min without stop. It is True the non stop but It takes 45 Min. The problem is that they Travelling crossing all villages and they cannot speed.
Better to take std train, half Price and same time

Avoid Gatwick at all costs ; it is one of the worst places to get to as UK infrastructure is stuck in the 1970s. Used the “ Express “ train twice in the last month and both times there were huge delays that resulted in hour journeys that are supposed to take 30mins. No announcements either time of what was happening or why which added to the stress. Victoria is a nightmare of congestion and roadworks too.
