“French Treat!”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

A varied menu in a cozy setting make this a great French restaurant. Their special "Poule au Pot" is delicious. All of our food was good and the price not too alarming. They were able to pick out some good wine. Highly recommend this casual French restaurant.

“Over cooked duck”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

Its a shame when they have a conversation with you about how pink you want your duck that it is served totally overcooked - and it was cut through so easy for the chef to see before serving. Nice atmosphere and had a nice time so didn't complain at the time as waiting for replacement dishes spoils a meal. Crème Brule was superb but enough for 2. Also its very odd that their house red wine comes in a 1.5l bottle only.

“French country cooking at its best”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

I have been frequenting La Poule au Pot ever since the mid 80's when my office was around the corner. Today the atmosphere as lost nothing and the food is still a consistently high standard.

The menu is simple and in French. I their lamb and chicken dishes are to die for, and their fish is excellent.

It is busy, buzzy yet in the way only the french seem to be able to do. It is a fantastic french country food restaurant in the heart of London!

“So disappointing”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

I've known of this restaurant for over 20 years and made a return visit in February 2014 for a special birthday dinner. The ambiance was as charming as ever, but the food, of dear! The lamb, a little tough and under seasoned (perhaps hurriedly defrosted?) The soupe de poisson watery and flavourless - I'd expected the classic thick Provençal creamy version, with croutons and garlic, might have been satisfied with the alternative had it not been so insipid. We didn't order any puds as feared further disappointment.
On paying our bill we were asked by the waiter how things were, he seemed utterly disinterested in our feedback. We left sadly disappointed.

“The food's the thing”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

What's the most important aspect of an evening out in a restaurant? Well, the ambience here is exceptional with comfortable tables and chairs spaced out well for conversations to remain private but close enough to spot any dining celebrities. In summary very atmospheric. The staff: just the right balance between being at your table and informative and not being at you table. Full marks so far. My guest's cheese quiche was 'the best she has ever tasted" although she is inclined to use over exaggeration when describing food. However, I found my sample most flavoursome and intense. My steak was excellent as was the bernaise sauce and chips well presented and cooked, raising the humble potato to new levels. That's the good news. My guest's meat was overcooked despite the request for "blue" and my pate was stodgy and bland and served with toast as well as bread-too much for a starter. In a word erratic. However, the staff and ambience warrants another visit. Fingers crossed on the food
