The entrance approach filled us with foreboding, scruffy carpet, old ornaments in display cabinets, and two toilet doors at the bottom of the gloomy stairs which need a repaint.
The welcome was not a 5* experience, rushed to our table in a relatively empty restaurant at 1915 on a Saturday evening. No one offered to take our coats.
The menu is a bit 'dumbed down', with undue emphasis on set meals. We opted for these, plus a side order of additional Toro sashimi.
On the plus side the food was very good, and the service of it well paced. Young waiting staff were OK but not outstanding.
At £58 per head for the set meals this was not a cheap night out, nor was it expected, but the whole thing feels like it needs a radical update.
