We stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding in this hotel. We were booked for one night but had to turn up at the last minute a night earlier as another hotel double booked us. Straight away they were very helpful and found a room available for us.
The hotel is apparently the oldest one in the UK and it is packed with character. It doesn't look like the typical chain hotels. The rooms are big and very comfortable. The location of the hotel is perfect if you want to visit Norwich.
They have some great stories about the ghosts at the bar downstairs where by the way the food is really good (as is the breakfast). Apparently rooms 301 and 303 are haunted! We stayed in 301 and we survived!
It is also a great place for weddings. The service is spotless. We definitely recommend to stay here!

Great location near old town, cathedral, restaurants etc and potentially a very attractive building but instead of all the things it could be, it's OK-ish and that's about all. Looks tired, needs a refresh, rooms are certainly adequate (and clean) but very average and unimaginative, the whole hotel has a slightly dated department store look throughout. Unfortunately none of this is enough to justify its star rating. Best: very pleasant front desk staff. Worst: chaotic breakfast, low standard.

Dear FussyBrighton,

Thank you feedback in relation to your recent stay.

I must apologise that you did not find the experience satisfying. We have great comments back from the vast majority of our guests and it seems as if we failed on this occasion with yourself. We are currently working our way through an extensive refurbishment plan of the hotel and hopefully you will see the difference on your next visit to the area, but this will not turn us in to a modern hotel, we are the oldest hotel in the UK and we want to keep that character around the building. It is a shame that you also found breakfast chaotic, when it comes to weekends we do inform guests that the busiest period will be between 9-10am and if they wish for a quieter, more relaxing breakfast then to come down before hand.

Recently spent a few nights at the Maids Head for a business trip. Although the staff were friendly and the location was good the hotel itself is not worth the 4* rating in my opinion.

I was been booked into a standard double room. It was fairly big with a great view of the hotel's water pipes. However, it had a musty smell and there were stains all over the carpet and curtains. The bed was so hard and the duvet was clumped together in balls and empty spaces all over it - not the most pleasant experience! The room was hot and stuffy and the noise from the water pipes and other rooms meant I didn't have one good night's sleep.

I had to request to have the bathroom cleaned again as I'd noticed there were hairs all over the floor and bathroom which were definitely not mine. The shower pressure was awful and wouldn't stay in place so I had told hold it. And also - what is up with the rubber mat in the bath? Kind of gross!

Breakfast was average - nothing to write home about. I didn't dine in any of the restaurants so can't give an opinion on them.

I travel pretty much week in and week out for business and this by far has to be the worst hotel I've stayed in. I wouldn't recommend this hotel based on my experience.

Dear Kammie88,

Thank you for your feedback.

I must apologise that you did not find your stay satisfying and must apologise for the problems/issues you encountered. I would like to get some more details from yourself in relation to your booking to establish quite went wrong as cleanliness is rarely an issue at the hotel and we would like to conduct a full investigation in to the matter.

I will ensure your comments get passed on to the whole team.

You will be pleased to hear that we are currently working our way through a refurbishment plan across the hotel to touch up certain areas of the hotel without losing it's unique character.

If your looking for a hotel that is close to all the bars and action without a sleepless night then this is the hotel for you! It is next to Tombland where there is vodka Revs, Revolution and many more in just a short walking distance.
We had a suite which was at the front of the Hotel overlooking a main road but we had a decent nights sleep.
The downfall.. The only downfall was that our air conditioning didnt work and the heating was on so the room got very hot, we didnt complain as we were only there for one night.

Decided to dine at this hotel for a special occasion, and so glad we did. The three course meal was absolutely fantastic. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Perfect location in the heart of Norwich. A lovely hotel with plenty of history. Would highly recommend dining here.

A friend recommended the Maids Head. We took the train from London so were pleased to learn that it was not far to walk from the station. Next to Norwich Cathedral so that was nice. Close to other Norwich attractions, too. Absolutely a great breakfast included with the rooms!!! There was a wedding while we were there so that added some excitement. I'd stay again!

Attended a wedding at the hotel and stayed the night. Staff were so attentive and helpful. We have a two year old little boy and the staff especially Bruno were amazing and looked us extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble, and Bruno was fantastic. Would book to come back as also in a brilliant location in Norwich.
