I have been staying there about once a month for the past 3-4 years. I always stay on a Friday night as I have to work nearby on Saturdays.

Always had a good stay. Nice little bar, good restaurant/bar meals and the cooked breakfast is very good and included in the price. Also free wifi.

Staff very good and friendly. An old building with a rather quirky layout. All rooms ensuite, warm in winter and comfortable.

All in all a good place to stay if visiting Norwich.

well my main complaint is the room, managed to get an upgrade being a platinum card holder, the cracked tiles and black mould around the bath/shower wasn,t too inviting, also spending 10 minutes with the shower running attempting to get hot water to come out, i gave up and then a slight dribble of hot came out, managed to just about get sorted, no blind on the window in bathroom just a net, the gap for the toilet was minimal to say the least, so the residents in the apartment across the rooftop could get a great view of me reversing the length of the bath to sit on the loo, and i,m only average build, god help amyone of any size, the double bed was two singles bolted together, the mattresses needed skipping 5 years ago, just like sleeping on a sack of potatoes, squeezed up on one side due to the stains on the bed linen on other side, and this was the upgrade room, food was ok but £14.95 for half a dozen 50p sized pieces of lamb was a bit expensive, will i stay here again, i don,t think so, seriously needs a revamp,

Room Tip: stay at the other best western about 400 yards away

this place is just far enough from the town centre (and the newmarket road) that you can lie in your room and hear more birdsong than traffic noise. room was north-facing, and thus lacking in direct sunlight, but as a base it was fine, if a little on the small side ('realistically' priced if you're able to book sufficiently in advance - £130 for 2 nights in my case). the staff were without exception friendly and helpful, and breakfast was ok, with perhaps a particular emphasis on quantity. 2 real ales in the bar, which looked welcoming, though we didn't get the chance to sample it this time. the decor is, it must be admitted, a little 1970s in places. there are regular buses down the newmarket road if you don't fancy the 10 minute walk to town, though, being norwich, they seem to miraculously disappear after about 6 o'clock. be warned the railway station is a good 20 minute hike. overall: not luxurious, but convenient, and friendly.

The corridors and my room were all a little bit dated and in need of a full refit. The bathroom was actually scruffy and the dirty grout and mould in the shower wasn't too inviting. The thick dust on the windowsills suggested it was a long time since they had seen a duster. You would not want to walk around in bare feet !!
In contrast, the girl on reception, the barmaid and the waitress who served me were all delightful and very helpful.
Dinner wasn't stunning despite the nice service however breakfast was spot-on with perfect scrambled eggs and beautiful bacon.

We stayed one night at the George Hotel and were very pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
The staff were really pleasant and were all very helpful.
Our room although small was very clean with the best TV we have every had in an hotel room. Coffee and tea making facilities also came with biscuits.
The food in the restaurant was execptionally good, as was the breakfast with a choice of a cooked breakfast or cold buffet, or both if you could manage to eat all of it.
The only thing I found that was not up to scratch was the dismal red carpet on the stairs up to our room, it was very worn and ill fitting. But as everything else was so good this can be discounted.
If we every go to Norwich again we would definitely stay again.
