Returned for our second visit this year with our adult son in tow to visit relations. We took advantage of the hotel's weekend special break which is great value and includes dinner on one night which we took on the saturday.Family owned hotel with long serving manager Shelley and duty manager Donna who hosted us well and made our stay enjoyable.
Rooms were refurbished and ours had a large walk in shower. Dinner was taken in the b&w redecorated dining room. Food from the set menu was of a very high standard and included great mains of pork, venison and fillet of beef subtly cooked and presented . The hotel was well patronised for the weekend and deservedly so.

Room Tip: Room 12 faced onto the ground and was very quiet.

Had a couple of nights during our "Indian" summer. Clean room and well furnished in modern style. You would need air-con in high summer, which our room lacked. Free parking and walking distance from the city centre made this a hotel we will stay in again. The road noise did not worry us at all, as the hotel has good double glazing. We did not eat, but the menu looked modern and the dinning room very well presented. The small bar is good for coffee or a nightcap ! Very nice staff. Shower and bathroom could do with updating.

I've stayed at a few Best Westerns in the UK, and they're all pretty 'individual' - I think the owners would say that they have character... Anyway, depending on your point of view this can be worrying or something to look forward to as you never know what kind of hotel/room you'll be in. If you want certainty - stay at a Premier Inn. However, Annesley House is definitely on the plus side of surprising. The room I stayed in was in the Coach House. The room has been refitted recently, good TV, comfy bed, robe and an excellent shower. Not the biggest room, but clean, comfortable and quiet. Didn't eat in the hotel, but you're only a 5 minute stroll from 'down town Norwich' (!)

Room Tip: Request a room in the Coach House

Pleasant reception and other staff, comfortable, compact well- decorated single room and bathroom with very hot water at all times.Level of decoration was high in these two adjoining charming 19th century houses linked by tasteful conservatory.
Excellent, beautifully cooked breakfast in delightfully bright dining room overlooking splendid garden.
My only negative comment would be road noise if bedroom is at front of hotel.A busy main road passes some 40 m from the front of the hotel. Light sleepers should seek a room at rear of hotel which overlooks the gardens.
Would stay here again if ever in Norwich.

Stayed here just for the one night in August. The hotel is just outside the centre and easy to find. We have stayed at Best Westerns all over Europe and always find them to be simple but good. This was too, room clean, old but comfy bed and breakfast was fresh and for a change fabulous hot coffee. The gardens are really lovely and in the sunshine a nice place to sit and have tea. Handy for what we needed. Would stay again.

To the point .... I have stayed in better places, for cheaper. Best Western, as a chain only (to me) means I get loyalty points. There is little consistency with the hotels. This particular premise was close to the city centre (a plus), the staff were competent, and the room was clean. The building is a converted house, so don't expect rooms necessarily fitting the price. My main disappointment was the breakfast, I booked B&B (which equated to £8 for breakfast), to pay for breakfast separately would cost £10.50, something I'd be loathed to pay for what I received, which was a 'full english', comprising of 1 egg, 2 rashers of bacon, countable beans,5 mini mushrooms, 1 hash brown (of the frozen variety), 1 sausage (more like a mutant cocktail sausage), and a tomato. I have stayed in home B&B and ate better (food prepared by a non-professional chef). Basically, I stayed for 4 nights, and gave up on breakfast after the second morning. I would stay again only because of it's location (minutes walk from city centre) and the fact that it wasn't my personal money paying.
I normally stay at chain hotels because you know what you're getting, but with Best Western, it's hit and miss (e.g. The Best Western Ufford Park Hotel, Ipswich, is an absolute delight to stay in).

oh, and despite the rating, I wouldnt call the internet 'high speed', but it was free.

2 nights spent in 2 different rooms because the first room was so small, I've worn bigger overcoats.
When I asked to be moved the receptionist was shirty at me asking. The rooms look clean from a distance but lack a detailed clean fir the money. The bedding felt and smelled worn out.
The staff although on the whole reasonably efficient were less than welcoming and gave about as much warmth as a tramps flip flop.
The breakfast was prompt and very good with a choice of cooked breakfasts. (and they can poach an egg) but we chose to dine out dye to an empty dining conservatory dull menu and expensive prices.
My advice. Book elsewhere if you want to sleep soundly the road is noisy and in august you suffocate without the windows wide open due to lack of aircon. The bathroom was clean but again unless you are prepared to poo in the bath there is precious little room.
All in all soulless, noisy, small and way to steep for the money.
