I have recently returned from Hill House (weekend 11th Feb).......there are no words, it was more then i could have ever wished for. With 19 people staying for my 30th birthday celebrations it well and truly exceeded my expectations, I had the best weekend and will most definitely be returning.
I visited Hill House for a birthday celebration and the property and services didn't let us down and in fact helped make it a great weekend.
The rooms are excellent, spacious and comfortable. The catering was marvellous especially cocktails before dinner and lunch.
The games room was a hit especially with the bigger kids like me......
There was an outdoor treasure hunt set up for the kids which they enjoyed.
I loved the log fires and the challenge of keeping them going made me feel like Richard Devere in To The Manor Born.
The art work was interesting and the kitchen was lovely and warm from the Aga.
The food cooked for us was hot and tasty and there were vegetarian options available on request.
There were two lounges which meant we could have an adults lounge and. A kids lounge although when down to a few people for the Sunday night we decamped to the smaller lounge (still big) for some cost TV watching. There is a B&O sound system which links up through the house so music is also not a problem.
If you want to stretch your legs take a wander down to the church.
I can't recommend it more highly it was a real break from the norm and we all loved the place.
I was so happy with my mattress that I am keen to find out how to buy one, so if the buyer is reading this....we were in the room above the large lounge!
We attended Hill House for my sisters 40th celebrations and we all had a fab time. The house was gorgeously presented with a large cosy kitchen and fab lounge with roaring log fire. Tara welcomed us, showed us around and generally looked after us really well. The addition of being able to use the local country club was a real bonus plus Bills fresh fish and chips van which we enjoyed on the first night. The rooms were all very well equipped and comfortable. Would highly recommend.
I booked Hill House for my 60th birthday celebrations with family and friends. The images looked great on the website and it didn't disappoint in the flesh! Living in Northumberland meant all my planning with Tara and Darren was done online, and they were brilliant - helpful, communicative and swift to respond. I never had one moment when I didn't feel they were being 100% supportive and all the arrangements were smooth and easy, from liaising with external suppliers, to agreeing the menus, to making the payments. My group were mostly an older crowd but it also included two young children and a couple of dogs. There was plenty for everyone to do, whether it was enjoying the retro games room, or relaxing in the lounges, chilling in the kitchen, or enjoying the gardens. I can't fault Hill House for its hospitality and comfort but if there were any negatives (and there were very few!), I guess I would observe that with an older group, the stairs were something of a challenge - very steep treads on the main staircase (which weren't great for us oldies with dodgy hips and knees) and the spiral staircase could have done with an extra 'grab rope' from the 1st to the 2nd floor. A younger group probably wouldn't have noticed, but by Day 4 some of us were wishing there had been a small lift! My only other recommendation would be to get the pinball machine fixed. But apart from that, I have to say Hill House is a magnificent, gorgeous venue, full of character and style, with a back-up team who will work hard to make your event a fantastic success. Big personal thanks to Tara, who really went above and beyond, looking after us throughout with a cheery smile and a can-do attitude. Excellent!
We spent 4 days over Xmas here and it was just Perfect. There was 18 of us spending Xmas here and everyone of us had an amazing time.
Tara has been a brilliant host from the time we booked, she was very helpful prior to the visit giving us all the amazing options available and being very flexible with our requests. She greeted us on the day we arrived and gave us a tour of the property and also had cupcakes and champagne waiting for us.
The house itself was beautiful, all the bedrooms were great, the living areas were very comfortable and the house had alot of character. The children and young adults loved the games room and the outdoor tennis court and having a kickabout on the big grounds in front.
The small things like having an integrated sound system, logs for the fire, dvds, cds, board games, fully equipped kitchen really made the stay feel like it was ahome away from home.
Having access to the country club, to go swimming and the gym was also a great bonus and well used. The fresh fish and chips that was organised to come and feed us was brilliant too.
I would highly recommend the Hill House.
An extended weekend stay to celebrate a 40th birthday with family & friends, across the generations from 8 months to 88 years of age. We trawled the web, stumbled across Hill House and what an absolute gem. The house is magnificent - a huge manor house with grounds, a games room and fantastic drawing room, room for everyone to get together or retreat as needed. Attempting to convince the Tesco guy that I lived there was a minor embarrassment since he delivered there previously. Some of our motley crew played archery ("brilliantly organised and great fun"), other more sedate members relaxed with a massage ("best Ive ever had" said one seasoned massage addict) before firing up the pizza oven for great British pizza bake off. I really recommend the bespoke evening, Tara and team were so relaxed friendly and organised that the celebrations went without a hitch. The food was excellent and cocktails in the secret cocktail room superbly mixed. We cant rate this place highly enough and for a mixed bunch with various needs, demands and desires and fairly high expectations, we were not disappointed. Perhaps at the centre of it all (apart from the luxury fixtures, fittings, sound system, TVs and games room) - we felt that nothing was too much and allowed to make ourselves at home. The Prosecco and cup cakes and warm welcome from Tara and her absolute professionalism were second to none. Cracking time away and hope to return again.

What a treat! Beautiful house, with every bedroom a scene from a film, the coolest modern art on every wall, juxtaposed with calm elegance and relaxed family feel.
The biggest surprise was an awesome games room where the kids and our guys relived their youth!!!
The catered for Evening of cocktails and self made pizzas in their great pizza oven was the best !! Went back to the smoke with relaxed shoulders and a big smile !
We will be back !!!
