The rooms here are much more pleasant and modern to stay in than a lot of university guest accommodation that was furnished in the 70s/80s, but unfortunately Broadview Lodge suffers the same lack of services as most B&Bs in this sector - the campus is in the middle of nowhere and most of its facilities do not open in the evening when you're likely to use them if you're staying here.
Norwich takes so long to reach from some other parts of the UK that if you have to visit UEA you are likely to stay overnight and are also likely to arrive the evening before. By this time there is nowhere to get hot food or even a cold sandwich on campus and no food is for sale at the lodge except crisps and sweets from a vending machine. If reception could provide even just heat-up sandwiches and a microwave I'm sure they could turn a profit at a hefty mark-up! The room rate does include free cooked or continental breakfast at the university canteen which (as usual) is in a separate building 5 minutes or so's walk away. Internet access isn't included in the price and the BT Openzone voucher I purchased did not work from the room I was in.
Although this isn't the fault of the accommodation management company, the campus shop was closed for staff training on the morning of my stay so it wasn't even possible to buy a newspaper without walking 20 minutes off campus to a petrol station....
