Enjoyed a very delicious crab and rocket tart with a large salad. Sat upstairs in the garden.Quiet but it was late lunchtime on a weekday. Some outside renovations going on with thatched roof and it looked a bit dark in some of the inside seats but may be ok . Price reasonable for such fresh;y prepared food. Would go again and recommend others to try it out, especially if you can get to sit in the secret garden. Service attentive

I've been looking for a favourite lunchtime cafe in Norwich and now I've found it! Lovely, thatched, quirky old building with slightly uneven floors, old tables with benches. Everything I like in one place! We were let into a cupboard to walk up the secret stairs to a lovely little garden. Yes, the waitress did have to read out the menu board to us and every single other customer because of the terrible handwriting but we found that charming and funny. We both had asparagus quiche and salad which was glorious and came with homemade mayonnaise. They get extra points from me for having elderflower cordial too. Didn't use the "facilities" so can't comment on them (Jarrolds is just round the corner, you'll be going there anyway because it's excellent).

We went there for lunch, the menu may be short, but the food was really delicious and the atmosphere of the place in itself makes the visit worthwhile. The service is attentive and you feel really welcome. Highly recommended.

Been here twice for lunch now - once back in the summer when we sat outside which was very pleasant, and again more recently when Norwich ground to a halt due to 5" of snow! We slipped our way down Elm Hill and had just got served some very nice food - a sort of vegetable stew with couscous - when the power went off! The lady in charge ran around getting everyone a candle and we carried on with a now romantic dinner - very enjoyable.
Personally I expect a building of this type to have a few quirks and possibly not be absolutely ideal for space for seating, but if this was all changed to be as per a modern restaurant it wouldn't be the same and would lose some of its charm.

We are locals who visit regularly for morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. There is parking directly opposite and the location near to the cathedral and at the top of elm hill is great. The food is consistently good, fresh, tasty and home made, the salads are exceptional and cakes to die for. We love the charm of the interior , especially the fire and don't care at all that the toilets are outside.
Even better is sitting in the beautiful secluded garden on a summers day . Staff are friendly and efficient . We shall hope to spend many more happy hours there eating roulade and drinking tea.
They also make fabulous Christmas cakes, But it's necessary to order.
