My daughter treated me on sunday to lunch at the winepress@wensum restaurant within the Maids Head Hotel. This being the first time eating at the hotel i was not dissapointed with the quality of service and standard of food. You can feel the history in this wonderful building and the decor is sympathetic to this without feeling old fashioned. In a word it has "Character".We were greeted by a polite, smart, handsome young man named Arial. We had a set menu,3 courses, starter, carvery and dessert.I plumped for the broccoli and binham blue cheese soup,my husband and daughter opting for the smoked haddock fish cake, you then either have the standard carvery or salmon with the vegetable choice being the same.I chose Turkey,my husband had a bit of everything! My daughter, the salmon. There was a wide variety of vegetables and the yorkshire puds were huge!.It was all very tasty as was the Shiraz that i had to accompany it.My only misgiving being that i ordered a glass and was automatically given a large, which given that i liked it was not such a problem but it was quite pricey(i know this is where restaurants make their profits)Hubby and i had lemon tart to finish and my daughter the sticky toffee pud, which was quite large. We were all stuffed to the gills! I was then presented with a lovely box of chocolates by Arial as a mothers day gift and we retired to the cosy winepress bar for coffee, unfortunately too full to eat the complementary home made white chocolate cookies that came with it.I intend to return quite soon, possibly to stay the night, although i have no real need as i live in Norwich!
