Description: There are few more tranquil settings than the River Garden on a summer’s day. The picturesque gardens with a long river frontage play host to couples, families, business people and a few chickens. The River Garden, formerly the Kings Head was built in 1650 and has stood for many years, Surviving a hit in World War 2, it was originally a coach house and pub in the days of travelling by horse and by horse drawn carriage and of more recent times as a watering hole for locals and visitors to the county alike.Whilst horses are still welcome, the pub is now in walking distance of many local residents and businesses as well as a convenient stopping off point, just off the A47 for those using wheels. Whilst there is nothing on record to suggest the popular drinking and eating establishment is haunted, at certain times things certainly go bump in the night and as the mist rises on the river early in the morning and the fleet of over 100 resident swans make their way majestically down the river Yare, the atmosphere certainly sends a shiver up the viewers spine.

“Excellent service”
Reviewed 19 May 2013

Four of us turned up just before 9pm on the quiz night at the River Garden looking for a late supper. The chef, although looking forward to going home, took out his saucepans and made us all a brilliant meal. We really enjoyed the food and the excellent beer and the quiz did not disturb us at all. Johnnie and Amy do an amazing job at this attractive non pretentious riverside pub.

“Massive fans”
Reviewed 17 May 2013

I've taken my partner and my family here so many times, every time we're always impressed by the food and the service, as well as the lovely setting. I alway wish they had a better collection of ales on the bar but otherwise, keep up the great work guys!

“Rustic - Thoughtful”
Reviewed 13 May 2013

Not your normal pub food - pigs ears, pigs cheeks, squid with salsa and assorted breads - this is tapas Norfolk style. My salmon was ordinary as was my ceaser salad. The bake well tart with cheery ice cream - TO DIE FOR!!!

Coffee was decent, the wine was acceptable - the surroundings were thoughtful with well place curious around the rooms to give it a lived in feel - right on the river and it was a bit chilly so stayed inside.

The SERVICE was BRILLIANT - they were thoughtful, attentive and interested in my order. It went well. Good on them.

Try it out one day - not bad at all.

Tom

“Very Bad Indeed”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

Visited with my wife and daughter on a midweek evening for a meal. Two of us had a pizza, the other chicken stuffed with chorizo. The first thing to say is that the meals took 40 minutes to arrive, even though the place was not overly busy. The pizzas were almost inedible, discs of a flat, grey substance with toppings that were unrecognisable. Whatever they were made of it wasn't pizza dough and it hadn't risen the slightest during cooking. Cutting with a knife didn't work, they literally had to be torn apart. If you're offering pizza on the menu then at least know how to cook one.
The chicken wasn't so bad, but the saute potatoes that came with it were very badly burnt and had to go back. It was difficult to believe the chef had put those blackened lumps on the plate and thought 'that'll do'.
It's a real shame as the staff are friendly and the location good, even though the pub itself is a little tired, but the quality of the food we had was pretty grim.

“great place”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

We went the the rivergarden on a sunny lunch time for a quick bite to eat and to enjoy the river view.
And I must say the rivergarden didn't disappoint.
We had the sausage sandwich and fishfinger roll which were both delicious. And despite the fact that it was a busy day we felt well looked after.
A restaurant we will definitely be coming to again.
