The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean and adequate but the decor is a little tired and dated. The corridors were really hot and the hot water system seems to be something of a problem - scolding hot or non existant.

The evening meal was fine and the service was good -however there were quite a few flies in the restaurant which was quite off putting. The hotel was unable to provide us with any food in the afternoon, which was not ideal.

overall an adequate place to stay for the night

Was looking for a quality luxury hotel. This was definitely not it.
Shabby reception area .Poorly decorated worn out looking corridors. The room itself was adequate, but the carpet dirty and the bathroom tired. The second morning (and last), there was no hot water.
When leaving I pointed this out to receptionist who could not have cared less.
Would not recommend staying in this hotel - overpriced rubbish

If you can't be bothered to read it all: basically, unless your company is paying, always ask for a substantial reduction. OK for lone business travellers.

We stayed at Oaklands, in one of the Lodges (4 of us) in May 2008. I had a good deal paying £450 for a week with breakfasts. The lodges are as you see on the pictures on the website. However, the bathrom floor was dirty (had sticky brown stuff stuck to it, and balls of dusty fluff in all the corners) under the bed & sofa bed was dusty. They provided 2 towels between 4 of us. I complained and towels arrived being left outside the door on the dirty carpet, they said they would clean the floors but the sticky stuff and dust was still there after!

There is a sink, no washing up liquid or cloth, I think they just swill the cups from the tea making under the tap and put them back everyday. I had to rewash everything myself. The big flat screen is good but most peple have these now , you can't claim the place is 'luxury' based on that! If there is 4 of you, bare in mind that the 2nd bed is a sofa and really not suitable to sleep 2 kids bigger than about 5yrs. One of ours had to sleep on the floor.
The people who sleep on the sofa bed have to walk through the bedroom to get to the toilet/bathroom, so no privacy.

The pool is not heated and is freezing, it was closed when we arrived and they had lost the key to open it. It took till late the next day to get it open by which time the weather had turned. The pool was promptly closed again.

My husband didn't bother with breakfast as the selection was poor. Apart from buffet style English breakfast featuring last nights left over potatoes - there was stale cereals (not in the boxes but in containers) weird chopped up concoctions in glasses that were there on the side for days! No bread or pastries as you would expect, you have to ask for toast or you don't get it. Tea or coffee (the coffee is horrible) is offered to you and bought to your table. They market the main hotel for wedding and private parties and it was very loud, noisey with people running about outside the lodges into the early hours all weekend nights.

Bed was not very comfortable either.

Good points: Foriegn waiter/cleaner was very friendly & nice with the kids and good at cleaning the lodge.

Stayed in Norwich on business at the Oaklands Hotel.

Was very impressed - was allocated one of the lodge rooms, which was excellent. Modern, stylish, spacious and very well appointed. Far better than any of the rooms from a large chain.

The hotel location was excellent and the grounds were lovely.

We ate in the restaurant, and the food was high quality.

Would highly recommend this hotel - make sure you stay in one of the lodges.

Me and my partner visited this hotel, as a last minute get away on Easter Sunday. We live locally but just wanted a night away somewhere from the house, and it was hard to find somewhere not charging stupid prices because of the Easter Weekend. We found the Oaklands website and the price that they were offering quite amazing. £69.00 for dinner bed and breakfast for 2 two people.

However when we got there we were immediately let down by the hotel. We checked in and walked to our room, only to find when we opened it that the room hadnt been cleaned at all, and was left as the last guest left it. We went down to complain and one of the chambermaids was talking to the receptionist. When I started talking to the receptionist the chambermaid overheard and asked what room it was and said it wasnt on the list and "that it wasnt her problem". No such apology was given and we were asked to wait in the bar. twentyfive minutes past, we werent even offered a drink, and then I went through to ask what was going on. The receptionist said... "oh yes the room is ready" - Well were you actually going to let me know?

Anyway we went back up to the room... and on first instance the room looked ok, but me and my partner were paranoid that the room wouldnt of been cleaned properly and in a rush. Hairs were left all round the bath so clearly attention to detail had been missed.

The room we were given was directly adjacent to the carpark, which was really disapointing considering when I made the booking I asked for a quiet room. Quiet it wasnt. You could clearly hear peoples conversations in the car park and car doors slamming shut.

From here on our stay wasnt too bad... the dinner was average. Waiting staff excellent however. Dont go down late for food though. A couple tried to get food after 9pm and the chef apparantly goes home at 9.00pm on the dot! Apparantly the sous chefs that are left to work are only capable of making a sandwich or frying some scampi.

Breakfast in the morning was nice. Plently of choice.

In summary... I guess you always get what you pay for however the least you expect is a clean room no matter if you pay £10 or £200 a night. We most definately will not be going back here.

I stayed at the Oaklands in early January and to say the least, was highly impressed. I travelled alone but was felt very welcome by all staff and management. The food was amazing and the bedrooms filled all my needs. Will be returning for another fabulous stay...
