The Oaklands Hotel is well overdue for a makeover. The first room I was allocated was dirty and in need of a good clean. My subsequent room was just ok. The breakfast and carvery were good but again the restaurant could do with a good clean and or a makeover. The staff were very helpful in resolving my many problems- but the problems should not have occurred in the first place!!

Room Tip: The hotel has lots of functions which finish at midnight . Ask for a room away from the noisse

We stayed at the Oakland for a wedding and felt it was overpriced and in desperate need of updating. The rooms were 'tired' with chipped paintwork, matted carpets and cheap bedding. The room was also quite stuffy even with the windows open and the fan which was provided was incredibly noisy and well past it's sell by date.
Our wedding was at 1 o'clock and check in was 3 o'clock . To rub salt into the wound we were charged an extra £20 to get into our room at 12.00.
The only saving grace was the breakfast which, to be fair, was well presented and varied, catering for all tastes.
Overall the experience was disappointing particularly as we had good feedback from other wedding guests who stayed at a nearby hotel at just over half the price that we paid.

Staff very friendly and efficient. Always a smile. Nice hotel and lovely breakfast with plenty of choices. Good wifi signal. The area around the hotel front entrance needs a tidy. Didn't look too welcoming because beer barrels etc were stored there. No lift but once you get your suitcase up the stairs it's not a problem til you have to get it down again. Room was hot but hey! August British weather. Bed comfy and clean. Bathroom horrid with peeling paintwork, grubby grout and cracked plaster. Clean towels. Hairdryer with frayed wire. Lots of noise in evening (you are pre-warned) and can be crowded in the bar due to the hotel being a very popular venue for weddings. One evening there were 2 receptions! One at each end of the hotel but guests congregated in the bar area. On the other hand there were times when the bar was very easy and relaxing. The grounds are gorgeous, even on a rainy day. If you have young 'uns plenty of running around space. There is a very nice pool but it looks like it's not been used for quite some time, pity because the weather was lovely and there were a few children staying in the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay but the bathroom in our room needs a lot of tlc.

We stayed on Sunday night on one of their deals. Food excellent, wine lovely, staff friendly, clean comfortable room, beautiful garden.

Will definitely stay again, infact have already booked it.

Within walking distance of other pubs/restaurant along the river front.

Thank you for a lovely stay

Hot and sticky atmosphere. Crowded (Sunday lunch). Carvery meat was average but a bit on the stingy side. Veg was awful, been standing around for ages. Desserts were good. Had to ask 3 times for a coffee order to be taken. Had to queue to pay as we left . Indifferent staff. Cheap though. Won't be returning.

Friendly and helpfull staff. The english breakfast was delicious, with fresh fruit and very nice danish pastries too. The rare garden is beautiful and perfect for my morning yoga. Rooms are small with quite old furniture but cleaned and fully furnished. Happy about the choice!

Went to the Carvery today, good wholesome English grub. For three meals , two with dessert under £19. Stayed at this hotel a year ago in a single room - which wasnt a great expeience, especially as they had a wedding reception.

Room Tip: On my reservation last year, do not book a single room, it was dire.
