This is a great place to spend an afternoon. We popped here whilst on holiday last September, as it looked very peaceful and relaxing on the brochure. Be aware before going that they are only open from 1st April till mid September and close on Saturdays and Mondays. We only just made it on the day before they closed. This is because the family live here to I believe.
The lady at the ticket booth was so welcoming and friendly. We chatted to her for quite a while. She gave our children an adventure trail (2 age groups available too) where they had little challenges and activities and things to look out for around the grounds. They both really enjoyed this and gave them something to occupy them.
The gardens are lovely and fairly extensive, from formal parts to woodland walks and a lake. On the far side was Hoveton Hall which was a grand house (cannot go inside).
There was also a small shop and tearooms, we had lunch here in the seating area outside the tearooms and the food and service was wonderful. They serve sandwiches, ploughmans, soups, quiches, cakes and cream teas.
We really enjoyed our time here and was made extra special by the wonderful caring staff. It was very good value and cost us £19 for a family of 4. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere peaceful and away from the usual hyped up attractions and business of life.
We would love to come a visit again next time we are in Norfolk.
