The Governor's Hotel
Reviewed 18 August 2013

My husband and I had booked this room at the last minute and, knowing the area, thought that the Earlham Road would provide a pleasant environment as well as being convenient.Well, our eyes were opened! Nestling in the lights from the Catholic Cathedral was the most seedy, filthy and downright menacing accommodation you could imagine.
The lobby and rooms were filthy (detritus banked up against the skirting boards). I peeled back a truly frightening set of bed linen (think olive green and mustard swirls in a 'textured' nylon fabric) and we fled!
I do regret not taking pictures, we were on our way to a family wedding, and while the tale of our encounter at the Governor's was good, photos would have only enhanced it. Goodness only knows what the other 'guests' were doing.
Anyway, don't let this put you off Norwich, as it says on the tag line 'A Fine City'!

Booked a room here in December 2012 & was appalled. The room stank of cigarettes & mould, the bed linen was all on the floor, the room hadn't even been cleaned & the bedside cabinet had been pulled off the wall. Demanded our money back or a better room & was given a room eventually after a lot of arguing, in the hotel next door, The Beeches. I have stayed here in the past & it was a lovely hotel. Sadly it is no longer & has really gone down hill, better than the Governors but still not great. The only thing in it's favour is that it is quite cheap, so if you aren't fussy.....
