There are two tales to tell. But first some context. My company had booked The Lansdowne Hotel for three jobs fairs this year. So this review is relevant mainly for using the hotel as a conference venue.
The first tale - I have never ever experienced a staff member at a hotel calling me a liar before. But that is exactly what happened. I made a simple request - for our banner to be positioned outside the hotel entrance. "We don't do that" I was told. "You did it last time" I responded. "No we didn't" she said. I wasn't quite sure what to say to that but in any case there wasn't time before she added "You haven't even been to this hotel before" (we had, of course - we regularly run job fairs there) "We have" I countered. "Oh no you haven't - if I remember correctly, you booked but then cancelled" I was aghast - this dumpy miserable harridan was calling me a liar. Her entire demeanour was sour and septic and arrogant. She received both barrels which, I can assure you, was completely appropriate. She burst into tears and ran off. This member of 'staff' - I use the term loosely - epitomises everything that is wrong about this hotel, this venue. She just did not care and certainly was not concerned with the impact her attitude would have on business. There is no doubt in...There are two tales to tell. But first some context. Then there is the second tale - actually, all of the other staff I encountered throughout the year were brilliant. Friendly, helpful, and supportive.
I've read the feedback others have left - the place is tired, it is in need of significant investment. My understanding is that is coming. It's not the fault of the staff that the carpets are worn. It's not the fault of the staff that the lighting is dim. It's not the fault of the staff that the car park is pot holed. Those faults belong squarely on the doorstep of the owners. What summed it up for me was when the manager told me that they had had to let their maintenance man go. If ever there was a hotel that needs a maintenance man - this is it.
So - two stars - the second being only because the majority of staff don't deserve to be labelled as others on here have labelled them. Except that dumpy broad - I'll never forget that incident and hopefully nor will she.More
