“Poor check in, good food, accessible room inconsistencies.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

Only one person at reception doing check ins, room bookings on the phone and taking bar orders for drinks and hotel food. Waited over ten minutes for attention. Stayed before in a lovely large wheelchair accessible room. However we were not told they had two room sizes - large and small accessible rooms. We were allocated the small one (109 and 209 are large). Only doubles with a sofa bed which we had to use - but it was too big to open into the small space. Had to move the bed and squished sofa bed open wall to wall! Uncomfortable and uneven.

Food is very good, basic selection for evening and expensive - but good portion. Nice breakfast selection.

We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Holiday Inn Express Norwich. It is always a pleasure to receive feedback.

I am glad that you have been a loyal customer and you chosen to stay with us again. I am very sorry that the hotel facilities and customer service have not met your expectations on this occasion. I would like to apologize for the long waiting time during your check-in. Unfortunately recently the hotel was understaffed and the front reception team was not able to provide usual prompt check in to our guests. As new member of staff joined in, the team will continue to provide high level of customer services and create guests satisfaction.

I am also sorry to hear that you found your room to be too small for your accommodation needs. As you have notice with your previous stay the hotel's disabled rooms are different sizes. Please request non-smoking disabled room (109 or 209) with your next stay with us in order to receive the most spacious room within our hotel.

Once again thank you for your stay and please accept my apology for all the problems you came across during your stay. We hope you will not lose faith in us and we look forward to welcoming you again to our hotel in the near future.

the only HIExpress that i have stayed in where they preheated the rooms, nice and thoughtful.
not a bad location, next door to some sports facilities and an ASDA, was really quiet and the usual HIExpress experiance made a little better by the very attractive lady on reception.

We stayed here on a Friday night and booked 3 rooms. We were late arriving (00:15) and yet the reception was still manned by very friendly staff who greeted us and checked us in.
We had 3 rooms adjacent to each other on the 1st floor. Each of the rooms were very clean and tidy, with no damage or anything missing.

The beds are very comfy, with a choice of soft or firm pillows, and I believe more can be arranged from reception. Reception also has 'forgotten items' such as toothbrushes available complimentary if required.

We checked out early around 9am, but still sampled the complimentary breakfast which also included sausages, scrambled egg, hash browns and beans. Just missing bacon which would have been better!

The car park was empty when we arrived, but when we checked out at 09:00 it was completely full. As other reviews say, this is due to the ice rink and gym next door so may mean parking is difficult if arriving during the day.

Next door is also a ASDA which is handy for stocking up on supplies, or visting the in-store McDonalds!

Overall, yet again this is my choice of hotel when visiting Norwich area, I even prefer this Holiday Inn Express to the actual Norwich Holiday Inn!

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend, people are right the car park can be a nightmare because its shared with a gym, supermarket and ice rink, also it turns into a drag strip on Saturday night for all the bored local drivers!

There was some confusion over the room we booked, they tried to give us a disabled room for 2 able bodied people, don't know whos fault that was.

Apart from this it was a comfortable stay with a really good hearty free breakfast with most of the things you could want and a free newspaper if you want it.

Rooms are clean and spacious, if you can get and internet rate you are laughing as the rack rate is £99.00 per night.

Would stay again if we were in the area.

Room Tip: Look out for the wifi hotspot in room 1

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express Norwich. I am glad that you took a time to share your hotel experience online.

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that you didn't come across any major problems during your stay. I am glad that you found the room to be clean and that you enjoyed your free breakfast.

I would like to apologize that you found the hotel parking facilities to be occupied by young drivers in the evenings. We appreciate your feedback. Your valuable comment has been passed to our General Manager. I can inform you that Asda already installed barriers to prevent the access to main part of the car park in the evening. We are also currently discussing this issue with Asda Management and we are hoping to solve it quickly.

The hotel team is looking forward to welcoming you back to our property in the future.

Week-end stay at "hidden hotel" in a particularly ugly commercial setting. I wasn't the only map reader who couldn't find this place, others used sat nav and they couldn't find it either. The road signage is either hidden amongst the rest of the commercial sites adjacent or non existent. Hidden in a valley behind an Asda superstore, ( green signs) and their petrol station entrance, one has to negotiate a few downhill hairpin bends before one gets a view of the hotel squashed next to the ugliest building in Britain...an ice rink and a very noisy gym club next door. The location is probably the worst I have ever seen for an hotel and that says something. The pity of it is, is that the hotel and its staff are very nice. We had an excellent deal for the week-end which included breakfast and the other evening meals were very reasonably priced as were the bar prices. This an Express and therefore isn't up to the same standard as the usual Holiday Inns in facilities but the overall impression was fine.

Room Tip: Don't get a room with an adjoining room door. Next door neighbours stayed up yakking until 2am...

We chose to stay at the Holiday Inn Express Norwich on our recent visit to Norwich as it was the best value for money for two people out of all the hotels we found (and it included breakfast). We knew it was a bit out of the city centre and also knew it was on a retail park which we weren't bothered about. When we arrived the first impression was good - modern and friendly staff. We went to our room which was typical for the Holiday Inn chain and quite spacious. Our room faced the Sports Village which wasn't very exciting but like I said, we didn't expect wonderful views and we weren't there to look out of the window all day anyway! The room was fairly clean - there were a few marks on the carpet which was also a bit rucked up and some areas could do with a bit of updating (shower hose seemed to be pulled and someone seemed to have used the small bathroom bin as a step as it was all dented). The breakfast buffet was basic but we enjoyed it - I particulary liked the cappuccino from their machine.

All in all, there could be a little more attention to detail in certain areas in the room but we thought it was good value for money and we would stay there again!
