“Afternoon Tea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

The purpose of our visit was to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. We booked the Afternoon Tea. The food was fantastic and freshly prepared with unlimited tea and coffee and extremely filling. The service wasn't particularly good but it wasn't particularly bad either, just very average.

We left after two hours having experienced a thoroughly enjoyable visit

My wife and I stayed here about three years ago, and we thought that perhaps it was a "work in progress". Sadly we were wrong - that was it! We have just stayed again - Sunday 10 November - on a working trip, and we were in Room 16, a suite. Indescribably naff - all the furniture needs throwing in a skip, and start again. Most of the furniture cushions were stained, the plug in one of the basins didn't work, so water didn't drain, there was no decent lighting in the main bathroom, and one of the (two) loos didn't flush. Dusty fake flowers, a headboard with cherubs that stick in your head, cold wooden floors....
But the staff were lovely.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else until the hotel has been refurbished. It's a wonderful building, in a great l...

Thanks for your feedback, its really important we receive criticism so we can amend and fix the problems you encountered. It is however a shame you didn't bring any of the bathroom problems to our attention during your stay we would have either fixed this or moved you to a different room/suite. I have looked at our system and unfortunately i have no record of you staying in room 16 on that date

Being a boutique hotel some of the furniture is a little peculiar and certainly an acquired taste but throwing it in a skip i think is a bit far fetched. Wooden floors and a period headboard is the personality of the room. We have many suites within the hotel and would have moved you to a carpeted room.

Really disappointed you didn't enjoy your stay as its something we all try and work so hard at. It is pleasing however to read that you found our staff lovely

The whole day was superb – the venue, the staff, the food, the organisation of the event (having organised my own wedding 12 months ago, believe me I KNOW!)

Our room was delightful (Paradiso No. 8) – immaculate, fluffy towels, HUGE bathroom, excellent hospitality tray and most of all the bed was very comfortable. Every member of staff we encountered was polite, professional and keen to ensure as guests all our needs were taken care of.

How refreshing in this day and age to have experienced true customer care. Well done St Giles – keep up the good work!

Suggestions - put the flat screen tv on the wall to make room for the retro tub chair and install a bath it would make all the difference!

How lovely it was to read your review. Thanks for your kind feedback, Customer Service is something we all work really hard at. So glad to read that the wedding was a success! In response to your bath query. We do have rooms with baths available but only a few. Next time your choose to stay with us request a room with a bath and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Thanks Again

this is a hotel that i have always wanted to stay at, so the expectation was high. we are local to the area so just wanted a weekend in norwich to shop. this is a lovely place to stay. the rooms are really nice and even though there was a wedding with music in the evening we did not hear a thing. we stayed for dinner and the waiting staff were excellent. I was undecided on my starter and my fantastic waiter asked "what would i like to have" and he arranged a special starter for me- what service!! All staff were attentive - this is a gem of hotel. We regularly stay in hotels and I would not hesitate in returning. Hopefully it will not be too long until we do.

Room Tip: 4th floor great for views

Very comfortable hotel. Found it very clean and nicely appointed. The beds are comfy although the room was a little warm. The bathroom was very large perhaps too large for just the shower, small wash basin and toilet that were in there it could have done with a bath as well. Breakfast was included and although what was on offer was very nice, I do think a little more choice on the continental buffet would have been appreciated especially if you are not keen on cooked breakfasts.

The hotel was in an excellent position just a 5 minute stroll into Norwich town centre which was very nice with plenty of good restaurants.

We found this hotel good value for money and lovely for a weekend break, would definately stay again.

On the rare occasion that my husband and I go away anywhere with the children, we chose st.giles house for a ones nights stay on our 1st wedding anniversary!
When I phoned to book the reception staff were very friendly and even gave me the postcode of their car park as it's different for the hotel one. Making it very easy for us to find.
We were welcomed by a very friendly member of staff on the reception who showed us to our room and told us about their restaurant ands hat time breakfast was the next morning.
The room was very well presented, sparkling clean and tidy!!
We didn't eat in the restaurant as we'd already booked elsewhere, but when we returned to the hotel about 10.30pm, the hotel staff welcomed us back and gave us our key without having to ask who we were.
Couldn't have faulted the breakfast, there was lots to choose from and all of what I tasted was lovely.
Don't go if you are expecting lovely views, the hotel doesn't offer this, but for me it didn't need to. We will defiantly be returning when we get the chance.
