Description: Based at the former Britannia Barracks and with spectacular views over Norwich, Cafe Britannia opened its doors to the public in January 2014. Our slogan taste rules, symbolises our delicious freshly cooked meals. As a social enterprise, we strive to not only put our profits back into community projects but we actively source a large proportion of our products from local Norfolk suppliers and from our own prison gardens. We are open 7 days a week with a dedicated breakfast menu served till 11:30,daytime menu including main lunches, light bites and afternoon tea, and an evening bistro menu which includes daytime favourites plus some teatime specials. Our main menu includes amongst other things gourmet burgers, fish & chips, ploughman's and omelettes. Plus an array of beautiful cakes, speciality scones, sausage rolls and Vintage afternoon tea. The cafe is staffed by category D low risk prisoners, many of whom have limited catering experience but all have volunteered to learn new skills, improve their lives and make a fresh start. The team all work incredibly hard to make the project a success and their commitment has shown, as Cafe Britannia has fast become one of the busiest cafes/restaurants in Norwich. All profits generated from the cafe are donated to community projects, including customer tips which are donated to Victim Support. To date, over £5,000 in tips have been donated to Victim Support.

Great food, good prices and friendly efficient staff. A great view over Norwich. Try the breakfast - if you are local you will want to go back again and again! They do Sunday lunches as well.

The fabulous olde Britannia Barracks at the prison plays host to this well-decorated, boutique style cafe, where philanthropy meets business in a most successful way. Portions are mammoth and prices are low. Food quality is generally excellent. Waiters are friendly, extremely pleasant and well-mannered. A big draw and massive asset to the business. The project comes with some difficulties like any other business and this is often associated with either being way too busy or at times too quiet. Managing the business must be rather tricky at times and under the strain one cannot help feeling that at times a wheel might be about to fall off the cart, but as a customer you will feel nothing but good vibes, especially when your mountainous plateful of delicious goodies eventually arrives ! The (sausage 'n') mash is reminiscent of the Richard Dreyfuss scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, where he creates Devil's Tower, Wyoming, using a fork. Clientele include none other than the great writer Graham Linehan. This is the best eatery in town and the owner deserves an MBE for her altruism and good business sense.

I came across this by accident and so glad I did. It's the perfect venue for lunch or afternoon tea with friends. Perched on one of the highest spots in Norwich overlooking our fine city. Good value for money, excellent atmosphere, wonderful view, great food. We enjoyed a late lunch on a Monday afternoon, the brie and bacon baguette melt was perfect and so was the coffee. Excellent, attentive and friendly service. This will be a regular favourite.
