“Definitely worth the 2 AA Rosettes”
Reviewed 16 August 2010

Had previously eaten here for Sunday lunch so decided to try for dinner on Saturday night. Overall, food was totally 1st rate - innovative, well presented and delicious. A lovely amuse bouche of pea and mint consomme was followed by makerel with watermelon, tarmarind and mint for me; amd by a goats cheese ravioli with a red pepper soup for my other half. We both had the bream with samphire and brown shrimp as our mains. Service was slick and attentive. No room for desserts. Good atmosphere in the dining room as in the pub downstairs which was a perfect place for a drink or two before dinner. £70 for 2 course each, 4 glasses of wine and service.

“Good Choice for a Fine Quality Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 2 May 2010

We had a Sunday visit to Norwich, and after looking at various reviews, and the Good Food Guide, decided on a lunch here.
It is a bit of a walk from the City Centre - but it was a very pleasant April day so the 20 minute stroll worked out fine.
We had a nice window seat that looked out over a triangular shaped green. The dining room was quite elegant but without seeming to be too stuffy or "silver service" in style. The menu had plenty of interesting choices, the on-line menu is pretty much accurate and gives a good feel for the style of food. All our dishes were well presented and well cooked. The Pork Rillettes starter and Pan Fried Cod main were both particularly fine. The wine choices were good, glasses of various sizes and good range of bottles. The Voignier and French Country Pinot Noir were both good examples and reasonably priced.
Service was friendly, our waiter offered a pudding from their downstairs menu without hassle. It was a little sloppy at time, in a not very busy service: bit of a delay after seating us, before menu was brought; quite a delay after ordering wine before it came (same time as first courses). And I noticed that an adjacent table on being given a cheese course (of 3 named cheeses) was told "we have run out of "x" so we gave a bit more ot the others". When we were brought the dessert menu, there was no "the cheese selection is only ....". These things were not major quibbles at a relaxed Sunday Lunch which was at a pretty good price. However this place has a good rating in the Good Food Guide, and if I was there in an evening paying for an a la carte dinner, I would expect sharper service.
Overall a pretty good lunch, in nice surroundings and good value.

“A good value relaxing Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 4 February 2010

Five of tried this having read complimentary local paper and TAd reviews. We were not dissappointed. A clear menu offers fixed price for 2 or 3 courses. The restaurant sits above a good pub offering a menu of more popular meals in a bedsit/ student location.

The food choice was varied for all courses and inventive. Service was attentive and well timed so we didn't feel rushed or that we were waiting.

All of us enjoyed their meals.

Would we go back for Sunday lunch; probably not but only because our favourite choice, Stower Grange, is within walking distance of home and has abetter relaxing atmosphere.

We would, however, go to the downstairs pub (Mad Moose) as this had a friendly atmosphere and good beer on offer.
