“One of the nicest places I've stayed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014 via mobile

From the warm welcome & home made cake on arrival, to the cheery goodbye at the end of our stay The Leeway was brilliant.

The rooms, and the rest of the hotel, are very well decorated. Quite luxurious, without being pretentious.

There are lots of smaller touches other B&Bs don't even think of that made this place stand out for me. There are lots of home made cakes, sauces, marmalade and jams. There is a review book, which proved very useful when trying to choose from Whitbys many eateries. A jar of sweets and a robe each in the rooms are also great.

The breakfasts here are very high standard ( we were surprised to a decorated table and bucksfizz for our anniversary) it's well presented and really good quality. The special breakfasts are very tasty, I had the sausage, cheese &egg bake.

All in all a wonderful place to stay, with friendly, helpful hosts who cannot do enough for you.

Karen and Garry work very hard to make this the best bed and breakfast in Whitby so why is the Leeway not number 1? From walking through the door and being treated to a large slice of Karen’s delicious homemade chocolate cake and a brew, to leaving, everything is perfect. We stayed in Room 3, Cook, which is a large room at the front of the house on the first floor. There is a very comfortable king-size bed (which can be converted to 2 singles); a well-stocked Tassimo drinks machine; bottled water; plenty of storage space; and an en-suite bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet, there is a supply of lovely luxurious toiletries for your use. Breakfast is the usual fare of bacon, eggs, sausage, beans etc all of which is local produce and of excellent quality – best sausages I have ever tasted, poached eggs cooked to perfection. Fresh juice; fresh fruit salad; homemade jams and marmalades; as much toast, tea/coffee as you want – the breakfast filled us up and apart from a piece of cake/scone mid-afternoon we didn’t eat until our evening meal around 7pm. There is also a ‘special’ each morning which has to be ordered the day before, Saturday is 2 toasted crumpets with bacon, poached egg and hollandaise sauce – delicious. Sunday is a sausage bake which was equally delicious. Unfortunately due to feeling a little under the weather we were unable to sample Monday’s special which is a toasted muffin with smoked salmon, poached eggs and bernaise sauce – it also looked delicious. It’s a pity we couldn’t stay a week just to give all the different ‘special’ breakfasts a try. Everywhere is clean and well-kept and Karen and Garry can’t do enough to make your stay perfect. Since we were last there the front garden has been replaced with a paved area with comfy seating and water feature which is peaceful and tranquil and perfect for relaxing with a drink. The hotel is only about 5 mins walk to the harbour and shops. This is the nicest B&B we have stayed in, run by two hard working and very lovely people. Give the Leeway a try you won’t be disappointed.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, have a look at the website and choose whichever takes your fancy

Four of us have now come regularly over the past few years and are never disappointed.
It is always our first choice because we know it is unlikely we would get anywhere better.
It doesn't matter which room you choose as they are all tastefully decorated.
From the moment you arrive you feel at home and in a relaxed state which helps make the holiday enjoyable.
We will endeavour to return as long as we are able.

Room Tip: The website gives a comprehensive description of the rooms and you can't really go wrong.

Another trip to the Leeway, this time to bring our honeymoon break to an end. Whitby is our favourite place, and the Leeway is the best place to stay without a doubt. We love coming here - it's like home from home. Fantastic breakfast as usual to set you up for the day, lovely food, not forgetting the gorgeous cake on arrival! Garry and Karen are so welcoming, it's just like old friends welcoming you into their home rather than checking into a B&B. We will be back again soon. (5th time).

Room Tip: All the room are beautifully decorated and well equipped.

Always a thrill to get back to Whitby, my home from home. Always a wonderful welcome from Karen and Garry, a slice of chocolate cake a cuppa and a chat. A different room this time, shared by my daughter and a wonderful surprise as she had made use of the Leeways offer of flowers and champagne for my Birthday. As ever a hearty breakfast, Garry seeing to every need,a lovely start to the day. The room was perfect, and nice being on the ground floor. The new toiteries range excellent. The Leeway cannot be faulted, always such a friendly welcome, wonderful food and hospitality. Karens Breakfast specials a joy to try, I loved the porridge with Cinnamon fruits....it really is a pleasure to stay every time, Whitbys Finest.....

Room Tip: All rooms excellent, memory foam matresses, pillows always give a great nights sleep.Tassimo drinks...

My husband booked our two night stay here for our wedding anniversary as a surprise and I wasn't disappointed. Forget what you think about the usual seaside B&B's, this is beautifully decorated inside and out, more boutique than B&B. We were greeted warmly by Karen and Garry and a gorgeous slice of homemade carrot cake. Karen kindly took her time to chat to us about local shops and restaurants. They even have a red folder filled with all the local restaurants and a sample menu from each, reviewed by the guests which helped us immensely when trying to figure out where to eat each night. In the rooms they have a drinks machine, a little jar of sweets (lovely touch) and gorgeous toiletries, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel and some lovely body lotion. Oh and lovely bath robes, another nice touch. Breakfast was divine each morning, none of the greasy fry ups you sometimes get, just beautifully cooked, tasty food, homemade jams and even little jars of homemade tomato sauce and brown sauce. It's a great location for exploring and has a lovely little garden at the front if you are lucky enough to get some sunshine while you are there. I could go on and on! We can't wait to go back.

Lost count of the times we've stayed here now, why stay anywhere else.
You're guaranteed a warm welcome from Karen and Garry, with homemade cake and a cuppa on arrival. We checked in at 10.30 am on our last visit in March which really maximised our stay. You'd be hard pushed to find any other b&b in Whitby with this flexibility.
The spacious rooms are to the highest standard. The drinks machine in every room offers tea, latte, cappuccino, hot chocolate etc. The toiletries are top quality and of all the places I've stayed I have never slept so good, the bed is so comfy. Breakfast? What can I say- outstanding. My partner Jeff tends to go for the full English, I prefer the smoked salmon and scrambled egg. The fresh fruit for started is delicious too.
If you stay here you won't be disappointed! we're looking forward to going back in June
