We stayed for six nights, booking in for B&B and evening meal. The meals are not as advertised - more instant than Al Carte! We were asked to eat out one evening as it was the chef's birthday and she was going out to celebrate, she wasn't in to cook breakfast either, that was cooked and served by our waitress! On all five evening meals the vegetables were the same.Poached pears were out of a tin, and minesrone soup was basically a can of tomatoes with bits added. Bread was offered, but only half a slice each.We were not greeted by the 'Hosts' in fact we never saw anyone who was remotely in charge.Rooms are clean and comfortable, but toiletries are in short supply, one shower jel,one shampoo had to last six days! Wouldn't return!

We stayed here for two nights and had a lovely stay. No sign of the gentleman referred to by other reviewers. All the staff that we met were very pleasant and helpful. The whole place was very clean and well kept with very pleasant lounge and bar areas. liked the fact that we could adjust the room heating to our liking. The breakfast was well cooked with good choice of cereals, preserves and fruit. We had one evening meal which was very nice but not outstanding. We both had steaks which were well cooked but lacked the usual accompaniments such as mushrooms/tomatoes/onion rings. Loved the view of the Esk valley from the end of the garden. The picnic tables overlooking the view would be lovely on warm days/evenings to enjoy the view with a coffee or something stronger and the summerhouse was an ideal place for a quiet read. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper it may be best to ask for a room at the back of the house - due to som...

We stayed here for one night on our way to Scotland. Very friendly and helpful staff, room was a bit small and some noisey guests didn't help our sleep. Unfortunately the Hotel didn't cook that night and so we made our way to the local pub. What a mistake as it took over and hour for our meals to arrive. The Hotel garden is great with little secluded areas to explore, the view from the Summer house looked over the valley and we were lucky enough to see the Steam train passing by in the valley far below. Lounge, Bar area and conservatory are comfy to sit in and relax. The breakfast menu was very good with a good selection of starters

I recently stayed here for a double family celebration. We had a great time due to the weather and the beautiful garden & summer house. Unfortunately I have to agree with other reviewers, the man who runs the place was unfriendly to the point of being rude to my 85 yr old father, he sits at the desk in the evening if you are gathered in the conservatory and was unwilling to switch channels on the tv in the guests lounge!
Beware the bar prices - even our family up from London were staggered!
We ate there one night and while the food was reasonable some items were already "sold out" despite only four other guests eating in the dining room and they clearly knew all thirteen of us were booked in for dinner. At breakfast the next morning not enough tables were set up and all condiments cleared away before we had even finished. We were charged £28 per child per night for an extra camp bed in the family room! What a shame - we had a lovely weekend but it was in spite of and not because of where we stayed.

We enjoyed our stay in the Netherby (no thanks to the only male member of the staff who in my opinion should not be in the business- Most unwelcoming) Having said that the hotel is beautifully decorated, the rest of the staff lovely, and the breakfasts excellent. However, would consider eating out in the evening. The meals are far too expensive and no where near as good as the price suggests.Great place for touring the seaside resorts and of course the beautiful moors.

Room Tip: From what I gathered from other guests it is better to stay in the actual house rather than the outs...

We stayed here last weekend as a family of 4 and it was really a lovely hotel, nicely decorated, very welcoming & beautiful gardens; the view from the bottom is well worth a look. You can sit in the summer house on a sunny eve, very relaxing! We had an evening meal, it was quiet & menu limited but the food was lovely. Comfy beds & good breakfast next morning.
