Hi really happy you enjoyed your stay. Yha has plenty of other historic locations to explore try Hartington hall, or Berwick, you wont be dissappointed.
Thanks

Very decent YHA at a good price, beautiful location behind the Abbey and the free entry was a very nice suprise touch! Hostel was clean and services adequate but somehow it felt the most 'corporate' of all the hostels we've been to. The lounge is very modern but chairs aren't actually too comfortable for a weary walker! Staff at times weren't easy to locate and the ladies doing breakfast were at times a little lacking in charm.

Overall a very good experience, recommended for a stay in Whitby. The quickest means in/out of Whiby is by foot on the 199 steps, if you're only doing this 2 times a day it's fine for the average person.

thank you for the positive review. Yes whitby can get a bit blustery but it adds to the gothic setting of the hostel. Hope to sse you again

My Partner and I had originally booked a three bedroom room for the night but thankfully we were able to downgrade to a double room upon arrival.
If you are an active couple, set on seeing the sights of Whitby rather than just going at the same pace you would at home, then this is the hostel for you. Situated at the top of the hill and shouldering Whitby Abbey itself, the hostel provides a great vantage point for viewing the bay below.
The only shortcoming of the location is that it is a ten minutes walk from town. This could be a problem on a night time as the best route back to the hostel by foot is up the famous Abbey steps, where it can get a little windy. If you intend on going down into the town for a few beverages at night-time, you might want to consider getting a taxi back to the hostel.

Room Tip: The hostel is behind the museum, at the other end of the courtyard from the turning circle.

On a wonderful hot sunny cycling weekend a group of 30 of us stayed at YHA Whitby. Fantastic location, amazing views across the bay. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Rooms clean, fresh and very comfortable. Breakfast spot on. If your cycling, walking or visiting the area the hostel is defiantly worth staying at. Spot on!

Cycled 45 miles off road on the hottest day of the year and was glad to arrive at the hostel. Staff were welcoming and rooms were fine with an en-suite wet room. Spent all night in town so can't comment on teh hostel's common room etc. Breakfasts were very slow and dissapppointing iwht soggy bacon.

Would definately recommend this place for anyone wanting to experience Whitby on a budget. We stayed in a private room with our own ensuite, which was clean and functional but pretty basic and dated. Common rooms were lovely, and breakfast was great. Really friendly helpful service and THE LOCATION was perfect! very close the the Abbey ruins, and a nice walk down the 196 steps into town.

Absolutely superb location with great views from the picnic area. Private room for 4 was more spacious than expected and the beds were sturdy and comfortable. The private toilet and shower room facilities were clean and adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful and we loved the buildings historical features and character. The only let down was the breakfast - it was very clearly of the battery farm cheap-as-possible type, an awful thing to wake up to, we ended up having a very expensive slice of toast (the apples were even old to the point of being wrinkled and squishy). It's a shame because it let everything else down hugely, I understand the want to keep a hostel cheap but I just don't think cheap at the expense of farmer's livelihood and animal welfare is acceptable. It would be better to be supplied by a responsible farmer or butcher and offer two levels of breakfast (ie. a cheap option that just includes cereal, toast, fruit etc. and no meat). I wish we never booked to have breakfast here because it put a dampener on an otherwise positive experience.
Stay here for the fantastic location at a budget price but avoid breakfast at all costs unless much needed changes are made.

Room Tip: Request to be away from gallery and staircases if a quieter room is desired.

Hi Danika,
really sorry you had a bad breakfast experience. I will investigate why you found breakfast so poor on that day.
The eggs we use are lion branded free range and our sausages are red tractor farm assured.
So we certainly dont endorse battery farming at all. Never the less you found it not up to scratch on that day and i will endeavour to investigate and make improvements were necessary.
Really happy you enjoyed the rest of your stay.
