“Escape to the country”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

A big warm welcome from Mandy & Keith on our arrival and the offer of tea/coffee much appreciated as we stepped through the door into calm and tranquility. A great place to unwind and enjoy fantastic food and hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble and all your needs are catered for. A beautiful room large but cosy and the sound of silence was amazing. Situated in a lovely location with so much to see and do just a couple of miles along the road. We can't wait to return and would recommend this to all and if you're just passing through stop for a meal, beautiful home cooked food, very generous portions and all locally sourced. A real hidden gem!

We had a wonderful welcome at the Ye Olde Beehive Inne in June. The photographs don't do this place justice a wonderful pub with a great atmosphere full of history. Excellent local food great selection. The landlord and lady were warm and welcoming couldn't do enough for us. This is one of those rare spots which truly feels like your coming home. Comfortable and romantic. We shall definitely be back in August can't wait!

We booked mid june and on arrival we were greeted with a lovely old rustic building, brimming with colour from the floral displays outside. We met the landlady Mandy and landlord Keith inside where we were offered a cup of tea. Myself and my partner were taken aback by the hospitality and thoughfulness that i think you can only get from a place like this, if its a holiday inn or a travel lodge that extra detail isnt there and i got the sense that it was more than just a business with the owners.
A few examples i can say is that they had bought a bath toy for our two year old prior to our arrival and they washed his comfort teddys for us, one night when he was restless he nearly fell asleep on Mandys knee while she was giving him a cuddle so we could enjoy our meal. Nothing is too much trouble.
The room we were staying in was immaculately decorated with views over the fields, the place itself is on very quite road with minimal traffic even on the busiest days. The bathroom was exceptional with a lovely hot power shower and a huge bath.
On a night Keith cracked us up with his stories and his wide knowledge of the local area. The food is stunning, all home cooked from local suppliers and massive portions, the Whitby plaice i ordered was really a Tiger shark in disguise.
I cant fault our stay in anyway (apart from the weather) and the people who leave negative comments on here are on another planet or there are two Beehive Inns in Whitby, im not sure.
Dont let these people get you down guys, you made our stay special, we loved every minute and we will definately be back.

A wholehearted welcome from Keith and Mandy set the tone for our weekend. Clean, cosy and comfortable rooms. Excellent food and drink. Keith is one of those old fashioned landlords who does his best to make sure his guests get the best from their time in the area. When considering staying here it is important to remember the building is a working pub, several hundred years old. Not the place for you if you prefer modern, soulless chain hotels, but we will return.

This is the definitive review of Ye Olde Beehive Inne.
First of all we are not faceless, I'm Phil and my wife is Denise, we live in Hoyland Sth Yorkshire. We have just returned from a one night stay as part of Denise's 60th birthday celebrations. We chose the venue at random and were not disappointed.
On arrival we were greeted with a pot of tea and some rice cake, Mandy was very fussy. She was born here over 50 years ago and took over the mantle from her parents and is very welcoming. And so is Keith her husband. Keith runs the bar and his never ending chat is pleasing. He will play a few chords on the guitar if you broach the subject, you will know the songs instantly. We went out for a couple of hours just after arrival and on our return there was a birthday card awaiting outside the room. A nice touch.
We ate in the pub, there is a choice from the specials board and I settled for a 12oz rump with tons of veg, most of which I couldn't devour. Denise chose fish pie, it included monkfish, cod, smoked haddock and prawns and it came with a large bowl of chunky chips. She enjoyed it very much. It does say there is a restaurant, which there is, however, we ate in the bar because of a staffing issue!
Our room was en-suite and was charming, with Laura Ashley bedding edged in embroidery,
Breakfast was served in the restaurant. You can eat as little or as much as you want. There are serials, yoghurt and fruit juice to start if you wish, followed by whatever you want! We were offered kippers, full English, scrambled eggs, omelets etc. We both chose the FULL ENGLISH!!
It was massive, 2 sausages, 3 rashers of bacon, 2 hash browns, 2 eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes, it came with toast. I saved mine for the Golden Shred marmalade.
I am going into depth a little because I want you to take little from the poor reviews. The hosts were welcoming, the Inn was charming and the food (cooked by Mandy) was yummy.
Mandy ignites a lovely coal fire and it becomes your front room.
You have to understand this is not the Ritz. It is nearly five hundred. It is quirky but with charm. It can be a little cold at this time of year but the warmth of Keith and Mandy warm you up. If you are looking for such a venue you will not be disappointed.
