“A superb B&B”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

We spent 2 nights at Gramarye whilst travelling in Yorkshire with our French friends. John and Molly are caring hosts and made us all very welcome in their lovely home. The rooms were spacious, beautifully clean with very comfortable beds and many thoughtful, high quality details. The generous breakfast and home-baking is truly delicious. Our stay was a really memorable experience for our friends, a great taste of Yorkshire hospitality. We will certainly recommend Gramarye to friends and family and hope to return there ourselves.

We were recommended this b&b by a family member and we stayed here in August for a night. We certainly were not disappointed! The room was lovely and clean with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable which is often not the case in other hotels and b&b's we have stayed at! The breakfast was probably the best breakfast we've had, Molly is a fantastic cook and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Molly and John are lovely hosts and we would not hesitate to stay here again. We would definitely recommend this b&b to anyone, it's simply the best!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden room and it was beautiful and peaceful, but we.re sure the other rooms will...

Writing this feels more like trying to summarize a weekend with old friends than reviewing a B&B! My husband and I stayed here early in August for two nights to celebrate our first wedding anniversary - we also stayed here last year over our wedding weekend with my parents. There was only one thing we wanted to do on our anniversary and that was to go back and experience the place for a second time, without all of the rushing around and craziness that accompany a wedding.

What bliss! Everything was as perfect and relaxing as we remembered it and we had a great time when Molly and John were able to spend some time chatting with us. We shared laughs, swapped wedding stories and were able to thank John in person for a tip-off he gave us last year that led to my husband getting a new and utterly fantastic job.

Rather than detail all of the lovely things in each room and delicious treats gracing each breakfast table, which reviewer after reviewer have already done (indeed, raved about) I want to add just two things. The first is that on our last morning my husband exclaimed from the enormous shower: "I love this shampoo, it makes my hair feel so... funky." When a man starts waxing poetic about amenities, you know they are nice! The second thing to mention is REAL bagels. By real, I mean the authentic sort of American-style bagel with chewy insides and crispy outsides, which have been hand-made, left to rise overnight, boiled properly and coated in sesame and poppy seeds. Molly makes these every so often and if you are lucky enough to be there when she does... well, you'll see why they have merited a mention in the title of this review!

We stayed at Gramarye Suites for two nights. The room was beautiful- notably spacious with a luxury bathroom on a separate level. The unique artwork and slightly gothic decor gave the room extra character and we definitely felt like we were enjoying an escape from the humdrum!
Breakfast was second to none. A huge range of fresh fruit, pastries and cereals, followed by top quality full grill. As a cheese lover, I indulged in a continental- such quality and variety. A breakfast like no other.
From the moment we arrived Molly and John made us very welcome, even leaving us home baking in the room each day!!
Definitely worth a visit. Amazing value for money.
Best B and B I've ever been to!

My husband and I enjoyed an excellent three-night stay at the Gramarye Suites this past August. We chose it because we knew we wouldn't be out all the time and wanted somewhere we would enjoy spending time in our room.
Molly and John made us feel very welcome. The whole house was well presented, peaceful and exceptionally clean and our room (the Gothic Suite) which featured a grand wooden four poster bed, was very comfortable and kept stocked up with delicious home made cake, fresh fruit, coffee (that you could brew in the cafetiere supplied) and teas, fresh milk, bottled water and biscuits, all replenished daily while we were out in Whitby. The bathroom managed to be both large and cosy and featured a corner bath, which was lovely to soak in at the end of the day, as well as a good shower over the bath.
Breakfast was incredible: generous and delicious. And also a nice opportunity to chat to Molly and John and the other guests to get ideas for places to visit. You could help yourself to (among other things) freshly squeezed orange juice, cereals, fresh fruit salad, bread, cheeses and pastries. Cooked breakfasts were made to order - we mostly stuck to the traditional English, which featured Cumberland sausages from the local butcher. Other breakfast offerings we spied looked equally generous and delicious. Toast came with optional home-baked muffins and bagels, which even though I was full I couldn't help sampling with a large helping of Molly's own strawberry jam (made with lavender to bring out the flavour).
We came by train and found the b&b mercifully close to Sleights station (but not so close that any of the trains passing through could bother you) and it was easy enough to follow the timetables and get a bus (from across the road at the top of where the b&b was - no more than a couple of minutes away) or a train into Whitby. We also took taxis a few times, which John and Molly were only too happy to help book, when we didn't want to wait. The taxi cost around about £8 or less each way.
It was a wonderful trip and nice to be somewhere so close to Whitby but, at the end of the day, also removed from the seaside town-centre madness!
